Quick Picks: 10 Things I want from the Nordstrom Half-Yearly sale...

Ahhh, markdown season. I don't need sales but I always love a good one. Nordstrom kicked off its Half-Yearly sale earlier this week and I'm delighted by all the goodies! I will be revisiting this sale a bit down the line but for now above are some accessories I can't wait to try.

Anthropologie's SALE goes for the tops + Take an extra 30% off!!

Wednesday, May 25, 2016

The Fresh Cuts sale page has updated and new sale items are here! Plus, there's a promo this weekend: all sale items are an extra 30% off this weekend. No code required so you can also use the bounceback coupon -- yay!!

Inside, what's new to sale...

Playing the Sale Guessing Game {again}!

Sale is on tomorrow for sure -- confirmed by multiple sources! Even better, there's a promo on the way...all sale items will be an extra 30% off this weekend. Over the last few weeks sale prices have appeared on our wishlists the night before items move to the sale section (aka tonight). So if sale shows up early you will be able to apply the Free Shipping on your Anthropologie.com order of $100+ with the code FS100 at checkout promo, but you will not be able to apply the extra 30% off until tomorrow. The Free Shipping promo ends tonite.

Got that? Great! Now let's play the Sale Guessing Game!

Notes from Urban Outfitters' Q1 2017 Earnings Call

Last week it was time once again for Anthropologie's parent company Urban Outfitters to hold its quarterly fiscal earnings call. Thanks to Seeking Alpha I've got the full transcript! News on Anthro's department store concept, sales results and a couple of surprises inside...

Anthropologie's first dibs pre-shop page for June is now officially here!

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

Hmm, the model wonders in her pretty Islander Top ($78). How am I ever going to decide between
all the pretty new things at Anthropologie?

Thanks to this intrepid community, we've seen these items already, but today Anthropologie sent out the official June 2016 first dibs pre-shop link. I'm just as gaga over the items as I was last week! Earlier today I had a fantastic personal styling appointment at the Upper East Side Anthropologie in NYC and tried on many of the new items...and bought many of the new items. (I've known one of their personal stylists, Harriet, for close to 8 years now! If you're in NYC or visiting I highly recommend working with her.) If you're not following me on Instagram now's a good time, as I'll be sharing a bunch of preview images later today.

From the pre-shop page I'm loving the Islander Top ($78, runs TTS) topping this post, the Freya Poplin Dress ($168), the Soledad Maxi Dress ($278), the Dandelot Necklace ($68), the KMB Knotted Denim Slides ($128), the Camilla Bib Necklace ($68) and a bunch more stuff I talked about in this post.

What's your favorite item(s) from the pre-shop page? Don't forget about Free Shipping on orders of $100+ with the code FS100!

Previously: Get a super early sneak peek at Anthropologie's June new arrivals!

Anthropologie brings back FREE SHIPPING for two days only!

Get Free Shipping on the new June arrivals that continue to trickle in, like the Cameron Dress ($138).
More June sneak peeks here.

As I expected, Anthropologie didn't leave us promo-less for these few days before the Memorial Day weekend begins here in the USA. Today and tomorrow only, you can get Free Shipping on your Anthropologie.com order of $100+ with the code FS100 at checkout. As usual Unlimited Furniture Delivery is excluded from this discount and you cannot combine the birthday discount or (annoyingly) the bounceback coupon with this promo. I'm surprised this promo needs a code as Anthro has been very smart about not requiring one lately for shipping...

This is tempting for me because it allows me to try online exclusives I have my eye on, like the Crossback Cami ($58), the Silk One-Shoulder Blouse ($98), the Ruffled Eyelet Tank ($128), the Lace-Up Denim Skirt ($118), the Finley Crops ($118), the Azure Ikat Crops ($128) and Luka Wide-Leg Crops ($118), and that's before I even mention the shoe/accessory delights I'd like to try that are online exclusives -- as usual, the focus for me will be whittling down that list to something within my play budget.

As far as the rest of this week goes, I'm thinking fresh sale cuts come tomorrow (but likely a smaller sale) and then there is potential for an extra % off sale this weekend. Of course, none of this is guaranteed and this is unofficial educated guessing on my part.

So if you're looking to buy new stuff, this is as good as it's going to get promo-wise. What might you buy during this Free Shipping promo?

Hello and welcome to the new design, and name!

Monday, May 23, 2016

Just 4 weeks ago, this is how the blog looked. Welcome to Effortlessly with roxy!

Hello and welcome to the new incarnation of Effortless Anthropologie! This one's been a long time coming and I have many behind-the-scenes people to thank (thank you!!).

Over the last few weeks you've probably noticed that things look pretty different around here. My last redesign of the look and feel of EA was in 2012, and while that design served us very well for a long time technology has come far enough that it was time to make things new again. Like a breath of fresh air, this redesign reinvigorates me and I hope it does you too.

Perhaps the most noticeable change is that this blog is no longer called Effortless Anthropologie. It's purely a superficial change, though. You can expect this blog to still be home to all things Anthro, from occasional reviews and Reader Outfits posts to the Sale Guessing Game to articles about the biz side and so on. I love Anthropologie as much as ever and that will not change. Just in case you were concerned, later this week I'll be launching an Anthropologie giveaway -- stay tuned for that!

The name change comes about as I'm getting approached more often for sponsorships. As always, my preference with sponsorship is to partner with brands that give back to the community in the form of gift cards, special promo codes and the like. In the last 6 months I've been approached more than ever, but many brands froze the process when they realized my blog name had Anthropologie right in it. Over and over I'd hear, "We love you, we love your community, but we don't want to pay to put our brand name on a blog named after another brand."

Tough as that was to hear repeatedly, it does make sense to me. So, without changing the guts of what makes this blog so great, the name change is a win-win for me and for you too! I've even got a new Facebook page to go along with the blog, and a new blog URL! (Though effortlessanthropologie.blogspot.com will continue to work and for now, also host the posts.)

Like any big change, this new look will likely take some getting used to. The designers and I are not completely finished yet, there are still some tweaks to be made. However, this current appearance is very close to the final finished version we've envisioned. Photos are much larger on posts and the font is larger and easier to read. The navigation bar has been simplified and social links streamlined. I'm especially thrilled with the mobile version, which is much larger and easier to read now! (My parents in particular are delighted by that.)

I've also brought back some features, such as the ability to copy/paste text from the posts and comments. This was disabled back in 2013 after a bot site started stripping my RSS feed, reposting my posts on a ghost blog, and dragging down the Google/SEO rankings for the blog while also confusing readers mightily who accidentally landed there. Those ghost blogs seem to have faded away so copy/paste is back!

If you have any feedback on the blog or critiques of it, I'm happy to hear it but would prefer to dialog via email. Send your message to me at hello@effortlesslywithroxy.com.

And, as always, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!

Sandal season is upon us and my wishlist is chock full of beautiful, pedicure-showcasing options. While I'm healing from a broken left foot (boo) comfort is especially important to me.

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, May 22, 2016

Will we see sale at Anthropologie tomorrow? I'm sure sale is coming sometime this week but I'm not quite sure which day. Let's play the Sale Guessing Game and urge Anthropologie to unleash Sale earlier rather than later!

Anthropologie launches a new weekend promo!!

Saturday, May 21, 2016

Take 15% off select Anthropologie dresses, like the Paleta Shirtdress (now $134).

Surprise! Anthropologie is up to new (old?) tricks by starting a promo on a Saturday! Perhaps you too woke up to discover that a wide assortment of Anthro's dresses are 15% off this morning.

This promo complicates my budget a bit this month, as I was planning to go more towards tops, shorts and accessories. No complaints though! Perhaps I'll be investing in the Morning Glory Swing Dress (now $118), South Island Dress (now $135), Sierra Maxi Dress (now $169) or Plaid Halter Dress (now $152) sooner than expected.

Dresses that I own, love and highly recommend include the Villanelle Lace Dress (now $152, on me here), the Cafe Dress (now $135, on me here), the Lilt Swing Dress (now $101, on me here) and the Laced Garden Shift (now $169, on me here).

What might you purchase during this promo?

Weekend deals from around the webby world

Why wait for Memorial Day when sales can begin now? Such seems to be the thought process for many retailers that are offering sweet deals this weekend. Who are they?

OOTD: Fun for me, fun for you!

I didn't plan on wearing the same denim jacket in my first three return OOTDS...funny how outfits turn out! Goes to show how versatile this blue beauty is.

Speaking of beautiful, let's talk about Anthropologie's Laced Garden Shift ($198)...

Take 20% of all custom Anthropologie furniture for a limited time!!

Here's a seriously special treat from Anthropologie -- for a limited time, all custom furniture is 20% off! Prices are as marked on the special promo landing page.

This is a very rare deal from Anthropologie...and considering the flat $149 delivery fee, this is an amazing promo for anyone looking to decorate their apartment with Anthro's super-pretty items! I myself own two Anthro living roomchairs (currently in storage) and have my eye on a few rugs.

If space and budget allowed, this promo would have me looking at the Belgian Linen Edlyn Left Sectional (now $2,880); the Premium Leather Mina Sofa (now $4,399); the Paradise Found Botanical Astrid Chair (now $1,039); the Linen Edlyn Grand Ottoman (now $599) and the Linen Booker Armchair ($879) and Willowherb Booker Armchair (now $960).

Ahh, if only rugs were included here. What a fab promo by Anthropologie! Will you take advantage of this one?

One of my favorite jeans brands, now 25% off!!

Time to take 25% off some of my favorite jeans!

One of my favorite Friends & Family sales is here! Now through May 23rd, take 25% off your AGJeans.com order and get free ground shipping! Use the code AGFF25 at checkout.

There are tons of jeans I'd like to buy from AG right now, starting within their selection of white jeans, where both the Ex-Boyfriend Slim - White Restored ($198) and Ex-Boyfriend Slim - 1 Year Busted White ($235) are calling my name.

In the high rise department, AG's Farrahs are one of my favorite jeans and I love the Farrah Skinny - Desert Night Sky ($198) as well as the flared Farrah - Charter ($188) -- size down in the latter.

Another style of jean I like from AG is the Legging, though they changed the rise in these about two years ago and they don't sit quite as well on me as they used to. Still, I am liking the Legging - 18 Years- Heart Breaker ($220, love this light shade!), the The Legging - Brooks ($168), the Legging - 7 Years Ripped ($225) and the Legging - Olivine ($178). There's also the Legging Ankle - Leatherette Super Black ($225), which has been a mainstay in my closet for a few years going now! I love that these are machine washable -- simply wash them inside out in cold water and then air dry. Wash them the first couple of times by themselves.

One last item from AG that's been a mainstay for me is the Robyn Jacket. I'm loving this year's Robyn Jacket - 4 Years Tanglewood ($255) and imagine it would be a permanent fixture in my closet!

Which AG Jeans are your favorite?

Whoa! If these new preview images sneaking on to Anthropologie's website are any clue, June is shaping up to be a classic. Thanks to Tanda who posted a link to all things June making their way onto Anthro's site!

Let's take a look at some of the other pretties online now and almost online now...

Artist Interview: Rachael Ryen

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

A pretty top, with a pretty necklace I just had to know everything about!

Ever see a necklace paired with an outfit and just have to have it? Or wondered where someone got that pretty pair of earrings they're wearing? I went through that very adventure of finding the mystery piece I'd seen worn so beautifully when Anthropologie's Valma Tiered Tank (now $40, above) first appeared. Because oh that lovely necklace! It captivated me for its v-neck pairing perfection.

There was a similar necklace that I thought could be it, but no it was close but not quite. Then, like a breeze, the necklace finally made its debut on Anthro's site a couple of weeks ago, only to sell out nearly immediately! In fact most of her items have already sold through on Anthro's site right out from under my nose.

That will never do for this community. I reached out to the talented artist behind the necklace, Rachael Ryen. As her newest fan I wanted to know all about her jewelry line and designs!

Inside, discover what inspires Ms. Ryen's jewelry line, plus a fabulous special offer just for this community!!

What's new and pretty at Anthropologie this morning...

Pretty, feminine details continue to return to Anthropologie.
I'm loving new arrivals like the Ruffled Eyelet Tank ($128), shown here with the Riverwood Pencil Skirt ($128).

Anthropologie's new arrivals continue to turn towards the feminine and delightful as the weather warms up, and I'm loving it! In my mind, I'm already creating outfits with items like the soft-looking Ruffled Eyelet Tank ($128) above, and hunting for more items to pair with it. The South Island Dress ($158) has a swingy summer vibe to it, and the Catriona Midi Skirt ($198) looks to be a beautiful dusty blue color. I love how the Carrington Midi Skirt ($98) starts solid and ends striped, what a versatile casual piece that could be!

Inside, more of what I'm loving this morning.

Critical update: mini latte bowls are back!!!

Monday, May 16, 2016

They're baaaaaack...and I couldn't be happier! photo via Anthropologie Lenox

Need more proof that Anthropologie is listening to customer feedback? Beginning last week, several community members have noticed that some Anthro stores are once again stocking the previously-discontinued and mourned mini latte bowls!

A little smaller than a balled-up fist, these mini latte bowls are one of the cutest products Anthropologie offers and it was both a complete bummer and a total surprise when Anthro discontinued them a couple of years ago. So it's a real delight to see them back in action!

Why are these bowls so special? Inside, a tribute and thanks..

Anthropologie has brought back FREE SHIPPING for the weekend!

Thursday, May 12, 2016

Thinking about placing an Anthropologie order? Now is a great time to do just that, because Free Shipping is back! Enjoy Free Shipping on your $100+ Anthropologie order using the code SUNNYDAYS at checkout.

Yesterday, Anthropologie snuck a few new markdowns in -- you can get the details in this post. Also, as mentioned yesterday, the Pilcro Hyphen Chinos and Pilcro Hyphen Chino Shorts are as $10 off. The shorts in particular are very tempting to me at the moment...I love all the color options!

My cart is overflowing at the moment, and if I do use this promo it's likely to go towards items that aren't in stock at the Anthropologie stores near me, like the Lien.Do by Seychelles Morelia Heels ($140), the Pilcro Chino Skirt ($78), or the Scalloped Lace Tank ($68).

Or perhaps it will go towards online exclusives in my cart such as the Sugared Stripes Dress ($395, come to mama!), the Olea Swing Dress ($498, yes I'm obsessed with that print), or the Open-Back Cami ($68).

Among the items I've purchased recently and love, the Sweaterstitch Moto Jacket ($148) has already proven itself to be a very versatile little jacket, while the Canopy Tank ($68) is summer perfection! I sized up in both, taking a L in the jacket and an 8 in the tank -- the 6 was very short on me.

Anthropologie stealthily sneaks a sale upon us

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

Not one to let a day go by without some kind of surprise, Anthropologie has marked down just a few items today. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to what's newly on sale and these markdowns may just be temporary. Either way, oh what fun it is to crawl around product sections looking for these sale items!

These items are not showing up in the fresh cuts sale section. They may tomorrow; I don't know.

New markdowns I'm seeing:
Abroad Dress (now $100), Style No. 4130336415450
Azores Halter Dress (now $100), Style No. 4130336416718
Clementine Maxi Dress (now $100), Style No. 4130084323909
Florascura Tank (now $40), Style No. 4112265632009 -- size down in this one, it stretches
Laced Tie-Neck Tank (now $40), Style No. 4112340382294
Pippa Swing Dress (now $100), Style No. 4130348691755
Ruffle-Neck Tank (now $40), Style No. 4112212062215
Valma Tiered Tank (now $40), Style No. 4112265636631 - own this, love this. Size down, it stretches.

Also, the Pilcro Hyphen Chinos and Pilcro Hyphen Chino Shorts are showing up as $10 off. Thanks to Anthropolitan for pointing the first couple of these sale items out!

Sneaky, sneaky Anthro.

OOTD: A Cafe kind of day

I'm so excited to show off some of the outfits Anthropologie Portland Personal Stylist Eulalie and I created during my recent trip to the Portland Anthropologie & Co (which I just learned is what Anthro is calling its department store concept!).

Inside, more on this fun, effortless look...

Checking in with Boden...

Warning: major cuteness inside. Boden's Riviera Dress ($138) is one of many appealing new arrivals.

Is it me or is Boden getting ever more tempting? They keep mailing me catalogues and as I flip through their fun photo shoots I end up dog-ear'ing several pages per mailer. Have you checked out their new arrivals recently? I honestly have a hard time deciding which of the three Riviera Dress ($138, above) prints I like the best!

Warning: much more enticement inside...

Trend Spotting with Nordstrom Rack

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

I'm a little obsessed with white skirts this spring, and rather than hunt all over to find the pieces of an outfit, sometimes it's nice to do some one-stop shopping. Nordstrom Rack has some seriously delightful spring items in-stock right now, perfect for completing the outfits in my mind for less than full-price. And for that day when wearing a white skirt needs a change-up, one cute chambray tunic dress.

Choices, choices and all at discount prices. Here's what's in the graphic above, from left to right in each row:

A fantastic promo, today and tomorrow only at Banana Republic!!

Banana Republic is giving us lots to smile about today -- 40% off our $200+ purchase
online only, very few restrictions! This dress is topping my list.

I'm quite enamored with Banana Republic's Spring 2016 collection and today they've launched an especially sweet deal -- take 40% off your online purchase of $200+! Unlike many of BR's promos this one does not exclude "BR picks," which means pretty much anything on the site can be purchased towards this promotional discount.

Banana has been suffering through fit issues recently which makes it very hard to determine sizing for online orders, especially when each product itself may run true to size for some sizes and large or small for others. However, their quality is slowly moving in a good direction and they've been choosing better materials for their garments. So many of the spring designs are beautiful! I feel it's totally worth an order.

With that in mind, here are 15 items from my wishlist that I'll choose from in my purchase...

Ahhh, I love it when a deal like this comes along! For more BR picks, check out this recent post. Although I'm not usually a sale shopper, who can pass up the chance to pick up items I'd buy anyway at a lower price? What are you getting during this fabulous promo?

Delightful outfits at Anthropologie...

Monday, May 9, 2016

Although I miss the days of Anthropologie showing all of its products on dress forms, one nice thing about the model product shots is how they often show complete outfits. The styling team at Anthro's home office in Philadelphia -- personal stylists available for email-based appointments! -- often capture the products in super cute looks. I notice items that otherwise wouldn't interest me thanks to these delightful outfits. Inside, 12 more looks that made my wishlist grow!

(PS -- does anyone else miss the 'outfits' pages Anthropologie used to do? Their blog occasionally features 2-3 looks in a post, but the cohesiveness of the outfits emails and landing pages was a nice thing...)

Anthropologie's SALE goes pretty and decorative!!

Anthropologie's sale has updated this morning with fresh cuts in the house & home categories and in beauty (which is mixed in among other accessories).

From the latest markdowns, I'm very intrigued with the Happ & Stahns Bath Salts Gift Set (now $20) which looks like the perfect gift for nearly any occasion, and the Mirabeau Bath Salts ($5) likewise would be a wonderful hostess gift or future stocking stuffer (Egyptian Jasmine, ahhhhh). My own lips are craving the Waxing Kara Honey Lip Balm (now $5), which my friends swear by. The Discus Pencil Case (now $15) had caught my eye near the cash wrap area of the Chelsea Market store; it's in my cart now.

Over in the home section, the beautiful Trade Route Quilt (now $160-$195) would look perfect on our guest room bed...if we had a guest room. Other future home ideas include the pretty toile Willowherb Curtain (now $55-$80), the awesomely tasseled Mariana Curtain (now $90-$130) and the Seacalm Curtain (now $80-$120), which would all look beautiful adorning the windows of the right room in our future home. The captivating Bone Inlay Four Poster Bed (now $3,000-$3,300) is almost too beautiful to hide in a bedroom. And I just love the top and legs of the Dovemont Coffee Table (now $900).

I've been on the hunt for a new living room rug and I'm delighted to see the Coqo Floral Rug (now $5-$1,100) has made it to sale! I only wish that $5 version was big enough! And although I have no use for them, I think the Monogram Marquee Lights (now $200) are seriously cool!

What items from the freshest cuts have you tempted today?

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, May 8, 2016

Happy Mother's Day!! I hope you have been enjoying Anthropologie's 20% off promo this weekend! I certainly have, making purchases both in-store and online. My picks are in this post.

A well-placed tipster tells me new markdowns are on the way tonight into tomorrow, in beauty and home. These are not two categories I track as deeply as clothing and accessories at Anthropologie, but let's play the Sale Guessing Game anyway!

What to get during Anthropologie's 20% off promo this weekend, plus a secret bonus!

Friday, May 6, 2016

The promo we've been eagerly awaiting is here -- this weekend, take 20% off your Anthropologie.com order with the code XOXO or during your in-store visit! But did you hear about the secret bonus happening this weekend too? Get the details inside, plus what I'm hoping to pick up this weekend...

A sweet weekend promo is here from Anthropologie!!!

It's here! Anthropologie's Mother's Day weekend promotion is lovely, 20% off your purchase! This promo is valid both in-store and online this weekend only. Because this promo requires a code at checkout you cannot combine it with the birthday discount. But you can use it on both full price and sale items!

As always, the official line on PAs is no PAs, but you can always ask. Just know it is not guaranteed. Inside, some of my picks for this promo...

Getting to work with J.Crew

Wednesday, May 4, 2016

dress -- runs small, size up // necklace
What's the digital equivalent of dog-earing a catalogue page? I want to do that with this outfit...

One of the most delightful developments of Spring 2016 has been seeing some of my favorite midrange retailers take strides back towards the good ol' days. You know -- flattering fits, nice quality materials, and designs that spark inspiration and interest within me. The other day while at J.Crew trying on workwear I got a quality control sticker stuck to my fingers...and instead of being annoyed, I was delighted! Quality control?!? Someone actually inspected this item??! Halle-friggin-lujah.

So it's with a little extra dose of happiness that we chat about how lovely J.Crew's workwear is right now, and how I kind of want everything...

16 ways to instantly wear plaid this Spring...

Plaid. I love it! I've seen it everywhere for Spring 2016, and I'm feeling inspired about all the ways to wear a long-sleeved plaid shirt. Above, I've hunted down 16 of my favorite plaid tops -- including a few on promo or sale -- to showcase here.

How do I wear a long-sleeved plaid shirt, you may wonder? Here are several ways I like to style it:
-- Wear a plaid shirt between a shift dress and a military style jacket. (See an example of this on my Instagram!)
-- Wear a plaid with a lacy cami underneath over leggings or faux leather leggings with high heels. (See an example of this on my Instagram!)
-- Wear a plaid shirt with destroyed denim shorts and sneakers (I'm partial to Converse) for a casual look.
-- Wear a plaid shirt with a lot of white in it (such as #s 7, 8, 11 or 14 above) over white jeans or shorts.
-- Wear a plaid shirt with feminine colors (i.e. pink or purple, such as #s 4, 12 or 15 above) with a pencil skirt for work.

What's your favorite way to wear plaid? From the plaids above, which tops stand out to you as your favorites?

**Quick fit note on the Gap shirts: these all run about 2 sizes small. Instead of a medium, I take an XL in these!

Quick Picks: Ten Pendant Necklaces to Bring an Outfit Together

Tuesday, May 3, 2016

I've long been avoidant of long necklaces -- with a larger chest, I figured longer chains with pendants at the end wouldn't work on me. Recently however my mind has been changed and I find myself drifting the other way towards wanting lots of pendants in my collection! Above, 10 of my currently-available favorites from Anthropologie (this necklace is worth tracking for popbacks, it's absolutely lovely and on sale).

Wear any of these necklaces over solid tops and dresses with high scoop necklines or low-contrast textures, like lace.
