The weekend in-store community post

Friday, January 29, 2016

I have noticed a lot of community members sharing in-store deals and spots in the comments of various posts. Inspired by the weekly Seek & Find posts started by the lovely Alexis over at J.Crew Aficionada, I think now is a good time to start a similar weekly post here.

Open Thread: Is there an Anthropologie sale today? (Again.)

Monday, January 25, 2016

Is there an Anthropologie sale today? That's not a sarcastic question on my part...I'm on a work retreat in Costa Rica as you're reading this without internet access, so I honestly have no clue. If there is a sale you can check out all the fresh cuts right here.

Community, feel free to link to new sale items or 2nd/3rd/etc cuts in the comments -- direct links only, no other affiliate links allowed.

If there is no sale today feel free to use this post as open thread to discuss all things Anthropologie!

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, January 24, 2016

Was there a sale last week? If not, there is likely sale this week! Let's play the Sale Guessing Game and cross our fingers for at least one more set of markdowns in January...

Open Thread: Pretty New Arrivals at Anthropologie

Thursday, January 21, 2016

Love the double layering of the Layered Solin Jacket ($158).

What's new at Anthropologie today? This is an open thread to discuss any promotions or tips about what's going on at Anthro while I'm on my work retreat in Costa Rica. My mind keeps drifting towards the new arrivals, where cute items like the Layered Solin Jacket ($158) have me thinking of Spring.

The Laced Baseball Tee ($88) is another new arrival that caught my eye, though the reviews on this one seem lackluster so far. Boo! It's the kind of item where I might take the plunge anyway...just in case I feel differently.

A couple of updated basics, the Ribbed Double-V Tee ($68) and Double-V Tee ($50) are the other new items to my wishlist. I know we're sick of peplums...are we sick of polka dots? How about polka dot peplums like the Dotty Peplum Top ($98)? I think it looks kinda cute...

Afternoon delight: The prettiest vegan suede dress I ever did see

Tuesday, January 19, 2016

Mmm...vegan suede shift dress.

Pop quiz: what's soft, rectangular, and 7 different colors? Aritzia's Nori Dress ($125), my latest afternoon delight! The store sucked me in to look at sale but this super-soft faux-suede dress was the item that went home with me (of course). It's available in 7 beautiful deep colors; both of my top choices the dark olive and cardamon versions were sold out in-store, so I settled on the tuscan olive which really brings out my greenish hazel eyes.

I'm wearing this beautiful dress with tights and above-the-knee black suede boots. I love it!

If you like the idea of this dress but maybe not the shape, similar options include Anthro's real suede Sedna Suede Shift (now $250), Free People's Fringe Lace Dress ($128) or Believe It Suede Bodycon Mini ($300 -- va va voom!), this fringe-sleeve option from Express ($80) or this cool modern take on faux-suede that's on sale for under $40.

What's your afternoon delight today?

Metapost: Be back soon!

Monday, January 18, 2016

By the time you read this post I will be in the jungles of Costa Rica on an amazing work retreat! I will be gone until the end of the month...which seems like a long time as I type this but will most likely fly by. While I'm gone, I will have little to no internet access or cell phone service. My good friend MacGruffRuff, who has filled in for me before will be combing the comments for outlandish spam posts.

A few things to know:
- The comments moderation queue will not be combed daily. If you'd like to make sure your comments get published, you can sign up for an IntenseDebate account. I also recommend posting your comments from the same device whenever possible -- if you tend to float from laptop to cell phone and back again, this can also cause your comments to get caught up in the queue.

- I have posts scheduled to run nearly every day while I'm gone, mostly open threads with a few regular posts (i.e. the Sale Guessing Game) and new content.

While I'm gone...
- Feel free to notify the community of any promos in the comments!
- If there is a sale, feel free to link to sale items! (no affiliate links please)
- If there is anything Anthro related you want to talk about, use the comments even if it's off-topic to a particular post!
- If there are spam comments, simply click the "report" link in the comment
- Ditto inappropriate comments. Just click "report".

Please do not:
- Link to your own blog in your comments, except on the Weekly EA Community reviews post where you are welcome to do so
- No obscenities or arguments please, let's keep things cool like we always do

I'll miss you while I'm gone Community!!! Kisses and I'll check in if/when I can.

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, January 17, 2016

The Tag Sale is nearly over and it seems as though we could really use some fresh cuts, don't you agree? More importantly...does Anthro agree? We don't know so it's time to play the Sale Guessing Game and find out!

Take 25% off some fabulous denim and tees this weekend at Anthropologie

Friday, January 15, 2016

Anthropologie has a fresh promo for the weekend -- select tees & denim are now 25% off! Even better, no code is required at checkout so this promo can be combined with the birthday discount -- yay!

If you haven't bought yourself the Slubbed Baseball Tee ($58) yet, now is the time. Or perhaps in more colors? I'm up to three now and I love every single one. I also really like the Pernette Henley ($58) with its pretty pearlized buttons.

Over in pants, perhaps this promo entices you towards the Pilcro Vegan Leather Moto Pants ($148)? Or on the more practical side these wonderful AG Farrah Skinny Jeans ($188) or maybe these fun Paige Verdugo Skinny Jeans ($189)?

This promo will last at least through the weekend, in-store and online.

Anthro APB: Can you help me find this necklace?

Thursday, January 14, 2016

The Naturalist Necklace, detoured on its path to my closet.

Doot doot-doot doot doot...straight from the Effortless Anthropologie headquarters, it's an Anthro APB! There's a sold out necklace that I'm looking for and I'm hoping this amazing community can help me find it. This challenge will be formidable -- this necklace was an online exclusive that may or may not have been carried in certain stores.

Since Anthropologie doesn't allow its stores to search for items outside a 200 mile radius anymore (ridiculous) I need your help! I'm hoping to track down the Naturalist Necklace for an upcoming Valentines' week trip my guy is taking me on to Cozumel...

With the Mix-Stitch Sweater Tank (now $20, sold out).

With the Gathered Stripes Midi Dress ($158).

This necklace is on sale and probably sold out a couple of months ago. I managed to grab a popback which has gone wayward in its delivery, and now I'm hoping to somehow acquire one more at the $30 sale price. If anyone sees this necklace in their store or owns it and is willing to sell, please drop a comment or email me!

New post up later today.

Anthropologie's best SALE promo of the year is back!!

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

...and it's back! Anthropologie has reinstated its extra 40% off sale items promo! This move is not unexpected (thank you tipsters!!) but is probably not great for Anthropologie, earnings-wise. Unfortunately for them there's lots -- and lots -- of stuff languishing in the sale section right now so this is probably the best way to clear things out. Use the code XTRA40 at checkout.

This promo is valid both in-store and online, but cannot be combined with other promos like the birthday discount (which I am holding in my hot little hand right now along with my fellow early Aquarians and Capricorns). It looks to me like the store fulfillment is off for now -- several items I had my eye on suddenly went out of stock last night.

Anthro updated the sale selection a few days ago with new items, and here are a few other awesome items currently available to buy -- all prices are before the extra 40% off promo is applied:
AG Stevie Ankle Cords (now $130), Style No. 4122011334548
Beaded Fairisle Pullover (now $80), Style No. 4114265404302
Caya Draped Pullover (now $100), Style No. 4114339214665
Current Tank (now $40), Style No. 4112463691004
Cutout Stripes Dress (now $80), Style No. 4130339185315
Denimknit Cocoon Dress (now $80), Style No. 4130011338449
Dipped Scoop Tank (now $30), Style No. 35519149
Ephemere Dress (now $330), Style No. 4130346071414
Laced Funnelneck Pullover (now $100), Style No. 4113086694244
Lanka Tunic Dress (now $100), Style No. 4130089867993
Lourdes Swing Dress (now $90), Style No. 4130221641023

Northland Moto Jacket (now $80), Style No. 4115237439888
Oxford Leather Moto Jacket (now $460), Style No. 4133208310086
Paeonia Dress (now $90), Style No. 4130024091008
Pilcro Serif Legging Cords (now $70), Style No. 4122095147799
Pilcro Stet Cords (now $70), Style No. 4122506687542
Pleated Empire Tee (now $30), Style No. 4112089937016
Shimmer Spot Skirt (now $130), Style No. 4120210691010
Sugar Pine Sweater Coat (now $230), Style No. 4114265404294
Sweaterstitch Moto Jacket (now $90), Style No. 4115202159115
Windowpane Car Coat (now $200), Style No. 4133069690012
Zella Skirt (now $90), Style No. 4120464033143

To me, this seems to be evidence that Anthro's strategy of pricing items higher at the beginning with more promos and waiting longer to do 2nd/3rd/etc cuts might need some rethinking. What do you think community?

Anthropologie's holiday sales results are in and...

Friday, January 8, 2016

Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie's parent company, has released its earnings results for the Holiday 2015 shopping period...and they are probably no surprise to the community.

From the press release:

"Total Company net sales for the two months were flat over the same period last year. Comparable Retail segment net sales, which include our comparable direct-to-consumer channel, decreased 2%. Comparable Retail segment net sales increased 2% at Free People and decreased 2% at Urban Outfitters and the Anthropologie Group, respectively.  Wholesale segment net sales increased 40% partially due to delayed shipments from the third quarter carrying over into the fourth quarter.  The Company is now current on all Wholesale segment shipments and does not anticipate any further delays.
"We continued to experience strong direct-to-consumer growth at all our Brands during this Holiday season," said Richard A. Hayne, Chief Executive Officer. "These gains were offset by weaker store sales which we believe was driven by declining store traffic.  Highly effective inventory management by our merchant teams will leave us with clean inventories heading into the spring season," finished Mr. Hayne.
For the eleven months ended December 31, 2015, total Company net sales increased 4% over the same period last year. Comparable Retail segment net sales increased 2%. Wholesale segment net sales increased 15%."
Let's discuss. First, I don't think any of us are surprised to hear that Anthropologie's sales were down a bit...we saw way too many promotions during the holiday period to feel that the company was doing gangbusters. Direct to consumer sales (i.e. their website and app and ahem this blog!) were up a bit, which is great news.

I think there is a paradox of sorts going on here. Anthropologie saw weaker foot traffic this year in-store than they did in 2014. And I know the execs are going to talk about the product being weak and needing more hooks to drive people into the stores, which I do agree with.

However, I think the biggest problem Anthropologie has right now -- and this one is a tough one to quantify and fix -- is that they don't have the right products in-store right now nor do they have enough product in-store.

- There are way too many online exclusive items.
- There are not enough size runs in-store of the popular items. (Impossible to predict, I know.)
- Sizes are so inconsistent even within brands now that people have to order at least 2 sizes (and for shoes I have to order 3 sizes sometimes) which leads to upticks in returns.
- There are not enough outfit ideas and coordinating items being displayed together in-store.
- There is way, way WAY too much empty space in the stores. Every time I walk in I wonder if they're doing a stock turnover.

Also, I want to say this again because this is a big one.

There. Are. Way. Too. Many. Online. Exclusive. Items.

It's a problem when 3/4 of my wishlist -- sorry, registry -- is online-only items. Why bother going to the store at that point? Not only that, because I feel burned by how often items don't fit right on top of the non-refundable shipping, a lot of items I just pass on right now altogether.

Perspective solution: carry one of each size of online-only items in your 50 highest-traffic stores, to allow customers to try them on for size and then if they buy it have the item drop-shipped. Like a trunk show of sorts. Count it towards store sales.

Community, I'm interested to hear your thoughts on this.

I think that between online-only fixes and showing more outfit ideas in-store (especially 2-3 with the same item) they'll recover foot traffic more than a beauty stand, athleisure (gag) or pizza ever could.

I do want to wrap up by saying I'm ever more delighted by what Anthropologie is designing right now. Yes, there are still a lot of misses but starting in Summer 2015 I added about 7 new Anthropologie pieces I totally adore to my closet, which is a high number for me. My friends who have avoided Anthro all mentioned that they liked at least 2-3 things from the Fall/Holiday collection. There is still work to do but I'm very excited by the direction the designs are taking.

I want Anthro to do well. So, let's give them some feedback! Community, your thoughts?

Come take a Spring with my favorite secret store...

Thursday, January 7, 2016

Ah, bright vivid colors! Just what the winter doldrums call for. This entire outfit please.
(sweater // pants or this skirt works well too// shoes)

There are a few promos going on at Anthropologie right now -- check out details here and here -- and some of my other favorite stores have their own little deals going on. It's time to check in with my favorite 'secret' store where I get a lot of my work and casual clothing for a steal...

Here's a new Anthropologie promo for you...

Wednesday, January 6, 2016

In typical January fashion, Anthropologie has launched a fab winter promo! Today's new promo is 25% off full price sweaters and cords. This promo is valid for 'a limited time' which probably means Friday or Sunday and there is no code required. It's valid in-store and online.

I can't say enough great things about the Caya Draped Pullover (now $104) which I received for Christmas in the purple color. It's amazing, warm, and so fun to wear! Will you pick up anything during this promo?

Sidenote: I'm totally chasing two misdirected packages (my own fault) around Manhattan today! Cross your fingers that I can get to them before they are returned to sender!!

Well this is an interesting move by Anthropologie...

Tuesday, January 5, 2016

Perhaps I'm not the only one scratching my head a bit at this...Anthropologie's Tag Sale is back to an extra 25% off all sale itemsUse the code TAGTIME at checkout.

Ok...but sale items were just an extra 40% off in a promo that expired yesterday...? Usually the way it works is that the promo discounts get deeper...not shallower...? Could this be Anthropologie training us that if we don't jump on special promos like that we get less, not more? If so, that's pretty smooth Anthro. But if not I really have no clue what the thought behind this is.

I'm intrigued to hear your thoughts on the matter, community. I'll be back with a fresh post later today...

Afternoon delight: A pretty, steady new heel

Monday, January 4, 2016

Yes, I'd like to be crossing the street in these beauties too!

Note: Today is the LAST DAY for extra 40% off sale at Anthropologie.

Farylrobin is a name that's likely familiar to us Anthropologie lovers -- the shoe brand has produced some memorable designs for Anthro and is still stocked by them to this day. But Free People recently partnered with Farylrobin too and well, FP seems to be getting a lot of the best stuff!

The newest Farylrobin x Free People design to catch my eye is the Vegan Atwood Heel ($128). I love, looooove this new black heel-burgundy toe box color topping this post though it comes in a wide range of hues. The thick heel is just what this gal needs for all-day high heel comfort (the heels are only 3.5" not 4" as the FP website states) and they look great with tights, which makes them all-year wearable!

I'm torn between this black/burgundy combo and the new tan snake color. There are lots of other cute Farylrobin x Free People options if these heels aren't quite your thing -- the Caspian Tall Lace Up Boot ($248) and the River Bend Tall Boot ($248) would both have my name on them if their calf allowances were wider.

What's your afternoon delight today?

Examining Anthropologie's latest new dress arrivals

The pretty Picotage Sheath ($158), just one of many new Anthropologie dresses on my wishlist.

With my January birthday discount in-hand (you'll be happy to know that Free Shipping is back with the birthday discount on purchases of $150+) I'm poring over Anthropologie's site, wondering what delights will come home with me in this year's birthday haul. My first category stop is dresses where plenty of pretty frocks await!

Let's take a look at some of the dresses catching my eye right now...

Happy New Year to all and to all an extra 40% off Anthropologie sale!!!

Friday, January 1, 2016

Happy New Years everyone! My guy and I are recovering from a fun and festive evening that included eating chef's choice sushi (sea urchin, anyone?), dancing, partying and fireworks in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. And then pancake brunch today. Luckily this amazing community has gotten the word out that Anthropologie is now offering an extra 40% off their sale items as part of their Winter 2015 Tag Sale. Use the code XTRA40 at checkout.

Normally I would say discounts aren't likely to get any deeper than this but we shall see. I have no knowledge of anything further, but it seems like there is still a lot of stuff left in sale. Maybe this promo will clear it out...

I hope everyone has a wonderful day! Regular posting will resume on Monday.
