Nine new things I'm loving at Anthropologie this morning...

Friday, October 28, 2016

A neutral can be so much more when it's in a beautiful item like the Elene Asymmetrical Sweater Skirt ($128).

Although the Anthropologie website continues to have frustrating usability issues since the redesign, looking past those there are some truly beautiful new arrivals making their way online right now. While there is an extra 40% off sale promotion running at the moment, once you've plundered that time to turn towards new pretties like the Elene Asymmetrical Sweater Skirt ($128) above, shown here with the Marta Bell-Sleeve Sweater ($148), the Miss Albright Casey Mules ($168) and a clutch that is not yet online.

Inside, more new items that are wishlis...ummm, drool-worthy!

Shop November first + Free Shipping, today only!

Wednesday, October 26, 2016

Time to start thinking about holiday parties with Anthropologie's November first dibs page.
Shown above, the Annecy Midi Dress ($168, left) and the Celestial Halter Gown ($188).

Maybe it was the day in the mountain hot springs of Gleenwood Springs yesterday...whatever the reason, I'm feeling pretty generous towards Anthropologie today. So while I see that the community was pretty hard on the November First Dibs page yesterday (thanks for keeping each other informed!!!) I'm seeing some holiday looks that are getting me in the mood to feel festive and party.

Let's examine a few of those first dibs inside, plus talk Free Shipping!

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Monday, October 24, 2016

Seems about time for more Anthropologie Sale, doesn't it? We don't know for sure if markdowns are on the way tomorrow or not, but either way let's play the Sale Guessing Game because I think our chances are pretty good!

Sundance Catalog's Holiday Looks are sure to make any Anthro fan nostalgic...and excited!

Frippery? Horses? Puppies? Sundance Catalog sure knows how to tap an Anthro lover's heart.
Coat | Gloves | Dress | Belt | Boots

As evb wondered the other day in another post, did Sundance Catalog steal Anthropologie's old stylist? I mean this as the highest compliment possible because looking through Sundance's latest catalogue I'm getting that old rush of "ooohs" and "aahs!" that I used to get dog-earing every page of an Anthro lookbook.

Sundance, I think I love you. Why, inside...

On the final day of Anthro Day weekend, more picks!

Sunday, October 23, 2016

Uncovering a few more goodies for Anthro Day weekend, like the Mixed-Stripe Wool Cardigan ($148).

Today is the final day of Anthro Day weekend! Now through midnight you can take 20% off your full-price order with the code ADAY or in-store purchase. I've gone through the website and was reminded of some favorites and recent likes I haven't mentioned.

The Mixed-Stripe Wool Cardigan ($148, above) is certainly on that list. This pretty wool wrap-cardigan is so warm (but definitely will make you itch if you have wool allergies). I love the cedar color shown above. It runs large, so be sure to size down. I'm wearing it over the Lace-Line Tee ($68, size down) in ivory with the Citizens of Humanity Rocket High-Rise Jeans ($198, size up if curvy), the Clarity Layered Necklace ($68), Everitt Posts ($32) and the Kelsi Dagger Brooklyn Jordana Boots ($158).

Inside, more picks, focusing on neutrals, jewel tones and complimenting accessories.

It's very easy to sort by brand, size, color, whatever really.

Earlier today we took a look at dresses included in the sale. Now, let's take a look at pants and some tops to pair with them...

Take 20% off your Anthropologie purchase today!!

Friday, October 21, 2016

Anthropologie has thrown us a bone for the weekend -- today is Anthro Day which means you get 20% off your full-price purchase, in-store or online! Use the code ADAY at checkout. Although this promo is called Anthro 'Day', I have to guess and hope that it's lasting all weekend.

This promo likely means PAs for me as I just made a purchase at the Boulder Anthropologie earlier this week...hopefully it's one of the friendlier stores when it comes to promotional PAs! The idea of driving to Denver just for a PA...well, now I know how you car commuters feel. 

Inside, picks!

Why wait to win? Inside, at least 9 more things I'd spend my winnings on at Boden, if I won...

My new favorite secret retailer for basics and trends...

Coat (size down) | Sweater | Pants (TTS) | Shoes (TTS) | Bag

Although I've built up a closet of beautiful, quality staples I love (not easy in the current market of poor materials!), I have to admit that each season nothing pleases me quite so much as adding several new looks to my repertoire. It's a given that come a new quarter I'll be purging 6 or 7 looks and looking for new pieces to replace them.

Unfortunately, my favorite stores have not been coming through for me on this front for several seasons now. While I find a piece to love here or there, my creative desires to express myself in new ways via my clothing are going unfulfilled. So I'm hunting -- ever hunting -- for new stores to help me look good without breaking bank.

As the quality of material and workmanship has gone down at nearly every level, from luxury to midrange, all of a sudden discount retailers are looking ever-more reasonable to me. It's in this mindset that I've recently discovered JustFab, and fallen in love! While you certainly won't find handmade or cashmere created from the stalls of the Grand Bazaar you will find cute outfits at very accessible prices, and may even surprise yourself (as I have!) by finding multi-season keepers.

This look above is a perfect example. While shown in a stunning red here, the Brushed Drape Front Coat ($76/$56 VIP) also comes in more classic options like black and grey. Every product page has at least one outfit idea (this one has three!) and plenty of reviews from various body types to guide on sizing. From what I can see JustFab publishes both positive and negative reviews, which for example helped me figure out that for the Monic ($60/$40 VIP) shoes shown in the look above, I needed to purchase them a half-size larger so I could put a comfort insert inside (I love these) to help them be all-day wearable.

Inside, some of my favorite looks for work and play from JustFab, which stocks regular sizes, plus sizes, and a huge selection of wide calf boots too!

These are a few of my favorite over-the-knee boots...

Wednesday, October 19, 2016

When you're tall, sometimes over-the-knee actually means "grazes across the knee."
Shop this entire look: Sweater | Shirtdress | Boots

Visiting Colorado in Fall, I knew I'd be inspired by the chilly weather (well, sometimes chilly, with periods of summerlike heat in there too!) to start taking a serious look at my Fall wardrobe. And this year, that means taking a look at over-the-knee boots!

As this style of boot has taken hold in the collective consciousness, there are ever more options being offered at a range of prices, and better yet for me, calf-widths! Styles like the Hinge 'Canton' Over the Knee Boot ($150, above in black leather) are a great price and come in lots of colors and either leather or suede.

Inside, some of my favorite new styles for this year, and where to find good options for calves ranging from narrow to not-so-narrow...

The Business of Fashion ponders the outlook for Anthropologie & Co...

Tuesday, October 18, 2016

photo via the Business of Fashion

Anthropologie recently opened its newest Anthropologie & Co department store location in King of Prussia, PA (you can see photos on Anthro's official blog, plus an Eye Candy post with photos from Stefanie later this week!) and the Business of Fashion takes a deep dive into the concept in a fascinating feature, wondering how Anthropologie will compete with traditional department stores and what the company is doing to set itself apart.

Some highlights from the article include:

- The Walnut Creek Anthropologie & Co is 30,000+ square feet, WOW.
- The next Anthropologie & Co in Palo Alto, CA is due to open November 18 (unconfirmed, and the public opening may be Saturday the 19th)
- Westport, CT will get an Anthropologie & Co next Spring (2017); there is already a beautiful Terrain location there
- "And Anthropologie has several advantages. For one, the company has always had an authentic lifestyle concept around its apparel offerings. At URBN, it’s called “life stage” retail, and it’s the philosophy the company was founded upon in 1970.

It was then that current URBN chief executive Richard Hayne opened Free People, a shop with his college roommate that sold second-hand clothes, jewellery and furniture. That store morphed into Urban Outfitters, and in 1992, Hayne and his wife, Margaret, opened Anthropologie, an elevated brand targeting women who had perhaps grown out of the youth-and-trend-driven Urban Outfitters aesthetic. Free People, which had for years been sold as a label at “Urban” and “Anthro,” as they are casually referred to, was spun off as its own concept in 2002. (Along with serving as URBN’s chief creative officer, Margaret Hayne is also currently chief executive of Free People.) In 2008, Hayne’s personal obsession with gardening fuelled the development of Terrain, and in 2011 came BHLDN, which tapped into the need for alternatives in the wedding market. In many ways, the recent acquisition of the Vetri Family restaurant group rounds out the URBN portfolio, although there are clearly more opportunities to tap in beauty, wellness, home goods and travel."
- "Superstores are also not entirely new to the URBN family. Urban Outfitters has long experimented with unique formatting, opening a 57,000-square-foot store on New York’s Herald Square in 2014, complete with a beauty salon, Amoeba Music record store and cafe serving coffee from La Colombe coffee, another Philadelphia business." -- I love this Urban Outfitters, especially the huge shoe section!

The feature is well worth a full read, and I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments! Do you live near an Anthropologie & Co? What do you think of the idea versus a traditional Anthropologie store? What shortfalls have you found at Anthropologie & Co? (For instance, when I visited the Portland Anthropologie & Co last Spring, they didn't have BHLDN or Petites, both of which they've since started carrying.)

Anthropologie has new sale items, and an extra 25% off sale too!

Good morning from chilly Boulder, Colorado which will be my home base for the next three or so weeks for work! Anthropologie has unveiled new markdowns this morning, and as a sweet bonus there's an extra 25% off sale too! Inside, the best of what's on sale...

Styling Banana Republic's cute bags, now 40% off

Monday, October 17, 2016

Olivia Palermo shows one cute styling option for the Micro Chain Buckle Bag (now $89).
Top | Jeans (run large, size down)

Banana Republic is running another 40% off your purchase promo, online-only, through tomorrow. This one comes at a great time for me as I've just done a big purse purge and I'm ready to fill a few holes in my closet with cute new bags -- and Banana has many to choose from!

Take the Micro Chain Buckle Bag (now $89) above. I'd wear it with these cute sailor flares, a striped sweater, a Fall-ready trench and killer heels, and at 40% off this look is quite a steal.

Inside, how I'd style several more Banana Republic bags I'm eyeing...

Styled: The Laced High-Neck Blouse

Sunday, October 16, 2016

Top | Jeans (not Anthropologie)

Every so often it seems like the Anthropologie store Instagram feeds converge on one piece to showcase many different ways to style it. Recently I've noticed a ton of looks featuring the Laced High-Neck Blouse ($128), which is 30% off this weekend during Anthro's huge promo.

Inside, 10 more styling ideas for this pretty top (or really any long-sleeve white lace top, from the Scalloped Lace Henley ($148 + 30% off) to the Lace-Line Tee ($68 + 30% off, runs large))...

Three outfits I'm packing for Colorado...

Saturday, October 15, 2016

Colorado in Fall requires lots of layering ideas! This outfit from JustFab inspired me!

I'm headed to Colorado on a business trip next week (shortened due to my Dad's health, but he insisted I go as planned!) and packing for this trip has been tons of fun! Colorado in Fall can be totally variable temperature-wise -- one day it might be sunny, warm and high 70s, the next day it could be snowing.

Having lived there for 4 years I'm pretty good at the layering game. Inside, a few of the outfits I'm planning to pack and how I'll mix them up to get more outfits...

Anthropologie has unveiled a huge promo!!!

Thursday, October 13, 2016

Pretties like the Scalloped Lace Henley ($148) are now on big-time promo!

Note: Anthropologie's team reached out to me yesterday to let the community know that "the wishlist functionality on our website has been restored. Our customers can again see what their wish lists looked like prior to yesterday's glitch, and the default setting will be shareable." Thanks Anthro!!

Anthropologie is running a yuuuuge promo this morning! Take 30% off tops, 20% off bottoms, and 15% off dresses! It looks like this promo only applies to full-price items, and is valid both in-store and online. This promo may not be combined with the birthday discount. (Sorry Libras and Scorps. Especially you Scorps...put that stinger away.) How long does this last? I don't quite know yet but last time there was a promo like this it lasted only a day or two.

What should you buy during this promo? Inside, I've got some ideas...

Nine New Things I'm Loving at Anthropologie this morning

Wednesday, October 12, 2016

More pretty, shiny new things at Anthropologie, like the Gilded Garden Skirt ($248).

I know that wishlists are a sort of touchy subject after the most recent Anthropologie website update, but my Anthropologie wishlist (which I currently keep as an Excel spreadsheet anyway because I'm a nerrrrrd) is totally overflowing! In the best way possible, so many new pretties are coming online for Fall and I'm very pleased. One new favorite of mine is the Gilded Garden Skirt ($248) above, and the blouse which doesn't seem to be online yet. (These are the shoes above, but the denim colorway is currently sold out online.)

Let's take a look at 8 more Anthropologie pretties together, and one highly questionable item...

Gorgeous! BHLDN Lucy Dress

Tuesday, October 11, 2016

My ideal holiday party dress? Could be the Lucy Dress ($548) from BHLDN.

I'm in serious need of some extra pretty right now, and my jaw dropped when I came across BHLDN's absolutely gorgeous Lucy Dress ($548)! Look at how pretty it twirls...

I wish it were a little more teal like these style shots but green is another great color for the holiday months. The length, the ruffles, the tiers, they're all perfect! All it needs is the right topper.

Apropos of nothing, the dress is 30% off at Shopbop right now with the code MAINEVENT16.

What's gorgeous to you today?

Enjoying Columbus Day weekend a little bit longer...

Ann Taylor is among several stores with extended Columbus Day weekend sales in the USA.

Thank you everyone for all of your continued well-wishes and prayers! My Dad is fighting back against all odds and we couldn't be more pleased, but is still heavily sedated and in the ICU. I'm not checking emails or comments regularly, but please know I am reading them and they are very much helping to keep me strong. Thank you.

Columbus Day weekend is a shopping haven of sorts, especially for those of us that love fall clothing! Several stores have extended their weekend promos (or kicked off new ones) that allow this discount weekend to extend ever longer.

A few of my favorite basics/casual stores are having amazing deals today. Among them, Ann Taylor is offering 50% off your purchase + free shipping with the code SHOP50, an offer that's pretty hard to beat. Ann Taylor isn't one of my go-to stores the way it used to be but I've had luck finding a couple of key closet pieces there this Fall. My favorite purchase so far is the Light Wool Blend Topper ($198 + 50% off), a cocoon coat that works best on taller bodies. It looks great with a pair of jeans and a turtleneck underneath, like the Turtleneck Tunic ($90 + 50% off), I also wear the coat over the Ponte Seamed Sheath Dress ($120 + 50% off), a surprise work win.

Another Ann Taylor winner for me is the Autumn Wrap Floral Dress ($98 + 50% off), which a fantastic wrap dress option for under $100 -- and much less than that right now! I also really like the Silk V-Neck Shell ($90 + 50% off) which has a beautiful work-or-play-friendly neckline.

That's just one deal though. Ready to add some classics to your closet? Inside, some of the other great deals and what I'd get...

The Art of Layering...

Monday, October 10, 2016

Layering time of year is my favorite time of year!

One of my favorite parts of Fall is layering my clothing! It's so much fun to pick a tank top, long sleeve top, jacket and top coat that all work together harmoniously and allow me to flow from warmer temperatures to colder ones effortlessly.

Right now the Gap has a feature on layering that's inspired me, big-time. The outfit above takes five pieces (plus a cute hat and boots) and combines them into an easy, flawlessly layered look. I've found some other layered looks around the web that I'm loving right now...

Inside, layers galore and fabulous frocks...

Anthropologie offers an extra 40% off sale items!

The promo is valid in-store and online and while the official line is always no PAs, we've been able to get PAs for several iterations of this promo -- thanks for that, Anthro!!

Happy Sale Hunting, everyone!

10+ new arrivals I'm loving at Anthropologie right now...

Wednesday, October 5, 2016

The cure for the winter blahs? A pretty pink coat, of course!

Note: Thank you everyone for the continued support for my Dad! I've posted an update in the comments. The hospital sent me home and told me to try to rest and relax, so some retail therapy is in order.

Layering is in right now at Anthropologie and I couldn't be more delighted! Fall is one of my favorite seasons because nothing makes me happier (clothingwise) than wearing a top under a top with a sweater and coat on top! Instead of one or two piece outfits it's time for five or six piece looks, and that delights me to no end.

Coats are where it's at for Anthro right now, like the newly released Astoria Embroidered Coat ($298, above). Inside, another pretty coat and other new arrivals I'm wishlisting right now...

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, October 2, 2016

Right now Anthropologie is offering an extra 30% off sale items, and today is the last day! Which means new sale markdowns very likely on the way tomorrow! Free shipping on orders of $150+ is still in effect too through tonite, and may overlap with any new sale markdowns.

Let's play the Sale Guessing Game!
