Anthropologie's making the most of my favorite kind of print for Fall!

Monday, August 31, 2015

Totally digging the vibe of the Brocade Blossom Mini Dress ($448).

Although I mostly abide by the New York City unstated dress code of black, white, grey and...umm...more black, there is a ruffle-flower-color lover inside of me that's always just waiting to burst out! As I mentioned this morning J.Crew is drawing me in with its ruffle-adorned workwear (take note please, dear Anthro).

Meanwhile, it looks as though Anthropologie is nailing it with flowers, florals and abstract interpretations of gardens for Fall 2015. I've got a lot of favorites at the moment -- too many to actually list out, but inside are some of the items I'm really drooling over. And I'd love to hear your favorites too!

Working my workwear magic at a surprising store...

A pretty pink tweed dress, a tonal purse and leopard pumps. At the 5th Ave (NYC) store.
J.Crew, you understand me.

Every season there's one store that captures my mind and usually my wallet too. While I'm waiting for Anthropologie to rediscover its work-classics-with-a-twist magic, surprisingly it looks like J.Crew is here to fill in the workwear gap! The latter has been such a miss with me the last few seasons, with a few items appealing to me at most, that this sudden return to form is a lovely and somewhat intoxicating revelation. In terms of clothing anyway.

Inside, trying on a few of the delights I found in-store plus my work wishlist...

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, August 30, 2015

Might there be new sale cuts on the way tomorrow? We just had a few additions on Thursday, when the extra 30% off sale promotion launched. Use the code EXTRA30 checkout. Even with those new cuts there's still so much summer stuff at full price, I think more cuts are on the way sometime this week. Tomorrow? Maybe?

It might be for naught tonight, but let's play the Sale Guessing Game and find out!

The weekend in-store community post

Friday, August 28, 2015

Note: Reminder that all sale items are an extra 30% off!! Use the code EXTRA30 checkout.

I have noticed a lot of community members sharing in-store deals and spots in the comments of various posts. Inspired by the weekly Seek & Find posts started by the lovely Alexis over at J.Crew Aficionada, I think now is a good time to start a similar weekly post here.

Anthropologie x Peter Som Made in Kind launches today!!

Thursday, August 27, 2015

Peter Som is one of my favorite women's wear designers -- his Spring 2013 and Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear NYFW presentations are among my most-loved ever and I desperately want this dress from his Spring 2010 presentation like, now. His eye for beautiful prints and feminine shapes makes him a no-brainer choice to collaborate with Anthropologie.

Following up on their 2013 capsule collection today Anthropologie x Peter Som Made in Kind launches its second capsule collection! To say I am drooling would be an understatement...

Anthropologie's Sale gets even sweeter -- it's now 30% off with new additions!!

I knew something like this was coming this week. Still facing overflowing sale areas in some stores and needing to make room for now, thicker fall and cold weather goodies, Anthropologie this morning announced its promotion to take an extra 30% off sale items! Today is also the last day for Free Shipping no minimum on your order; use the code EXTRA30 at checkout.

There are even a few new sale items this morning! New cuts include...
Crochet Bib Tee (now $40), Style No. 4112346829826
Dipped Kiri Tee (now $40), Style No. 4112218772669
Headlands Tee (now $40), Style No. 4112218778171
Meseta Tank (now $40), Style No. 4112211064082 -- the black color of this is cute quite!
Orabel Tank (now $40), Style No. 4112236202676
Pintucked Halter Tank (now $40), Style No. 4112257231036
Scooped Linen Tee (now $40), Style No. 4112340385330
Sennebec Dress (now $70), Style No. 4130339183688
Split-Tone Tank (now $40), Style No. 4112209026049
Stripeform Tee (now $40), Style No. 4112090622055

You can check out all the sale items here. The official line from Anthropologie is always no price adjustments on promotions, however lately they've been great about honoring them anyway. Will this deeper promo encourage you to take another look at sale?

Afternoon Delight: can we talk about these ADORABLE new Anthropologie totes?

Wednesday, August 26, 2015

Polar Penguin Tote ($98) -- check out the adorable back too!

Oh, community, I have had quite the day. Late last night Facebook decided to kill my Roxy Effortless Anthropologie account because it's not real person (debatable, Facebook, debatable) which killed about half the content of the EA Facebook Trade Market Group. HUGE thanks to EA FB co-admin Meagan for being generally awesome. I've been trying to make things right with the EA Facebook Group today while also discussing with Facebook whether my account should be reinstated or not...

...so I just need to be distracted right now by talking about pretty things!!! Like tote bags. In the past we've swooned over the Bulldog tote, the Bunny tote, the Bird tote...and while all of those made me smile I have to say the latest two, which are a little more graphic and modern and speak to the geometry-loving nerd in me, are about to have me placing yet another Anthropologie.com order while there is Free Shipping with no minimum! (Use the code SUNNYSKIES at checkout. This code also still works to take an extra 20% off sale items.)

Have I ever told you that I love penguins? I love penguins. Especially penguins that pick the perfect pebble to show their chosen mate that they love them forever. I also love penguins that always wear tuxedos and the way they waddle. So yes, I will totally be needing the Polar Penguin Tote ($98) in my life.

Penguins have a special place in my heart no doubt but they come in second to HEDGEHOGS. As a kid I had a pet hedgehog (named Sonic, naturally) who would always lay on his back in my cupped hands and look up to me as if to say, "My, what a strange creature you are." Likewise, Sonic.

So how could I not love this tote, especially with its background plaid (love it, Anthro!) and the green skid marks that look like the hedgehog is taking a brief break between random speed dashes or chili dogs or grabbing rings or whatever it is that one hedgehog does in real life. (Probably none of those things but I was raised on Sega Genesis and all you super duper youngins probably have zero idea what I'm talking about right now and that's alright, like I said it's been a long day.)

I'm done now.

Anthro's all, let's hide the best part of the bag in the catalogue!

Just kidding! I'm not quite done because Anthropologie's Parisian Post-Zombie Apocalypse Catalogue for September 2015 shows what we'll all be wearing after all but one lithe, lonely Parisian lady have been wiped off the planet and apparently that means hiding the hedgehog from prying Zombie eyes. Be sure NOT to let your hedgehog face outwards ladies. Apparently that's what Anthro thinks.

If totes don't do it for you, they also come in pouch versions here and here. Kestrel also makes non-animal totes for Anthro.

What's your afternoon delight today?

Eye Candy: Anthropologie September 2015 Lookbook

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

Let's start with the good: I like the skirt and I'm delighted by its sub-$100 price point.
However, I think the sweatshirt looks sooooo sloppy paired with it, and I can't believe
that it's a Field Flower by Wendi Reed piece. Wha???

Anthropologie's September 2015 Lookbook is here and it's...alright...? I don't know, I wish I could rave about these photos the way I loved the first dibs that came out yesterday. But in truth, je ne comprends pas. You're in Paris, Anthropologie. One of the most amazing city backdrops there is. In most of these photos the clothing doesn't jump out at me, it doesn't say Paris in any way shape or form and it doesn't get me very excited about these items either.

Then again to be fair I have to say that the Fall 2015 NYFW was one of the least interesting fashion weeks I can remember. I felt incredibly uninspired by what walked down the runways and it was clear that the designers too were struggling to incorporate the trend reports into their shows. Anthro is hardly alone here. The stores that are bucking the trend -- J.Crew comes immediately to mind -- are the stores perking me up a bit (and they seem to have gone way off from what their own Fall 2015 presentation promised -- thank god).

So, get ready for a lot of 70s-inspired stuff this fall at Anthro it seems. My least favorite fashion decade...

Anthropologie unveils first dibs on fall with its September preview!!

Monday, August 24, 2015

Update: the First Dibs page link is no longer working for some reason, not here nor in Anthropologie's email. However, the product page links inside this post ARE still working!

September may not officially arrive until next week but that has not stopped Anthropologie from teasing us with some of the goodies we can expect to delight in for fall! They've just launched their September First Dibs page, and to sweeten the pot a bit, Anthro is also offering FREE SHIPPING with no minimum by using the code SUNNYSKIES at checkout. That same code also still works to take an extra 20% off sale items.

Inside, all that's good...

Anthropologie's Monday morning pickup: Free Ship, no mininum! Plus a few new arrivals that caught my eye

It's not quite the perk I was figuring we'd see today -- but I'll take it! For a limited time, enjoy Free Shipping on your order -- no minimum amount needed! Use the code SUNNYSKIES at checkout. This code also still works to take an extra 20% off sale items.

Oh, Anthropologie, you play it so coy. I want to buy more with you but it's hard to compete when other retailers are offering promos with 25% off, 30% off, 40% off...with the exception of a few key pieces I want at full price (recent full-price purchases for me include this skirt and this jacket). I'm going into Anthro stores more recently which is a good sign but do the stores feel a little empty to anyone else? Fodder for another post.

Here's are six brand new pieces on Anthro's site that are tempting me this morning: the Nymphaea Sheath ($298, beautiful print!); the Cabled Colorblock Dress ($158, has work potential); Checkered Meadow Dress ($268, an online exclusive of course); the Vegan Leather Corset Sheath ($350, I might need this in my life); the Seacoast Midi Dress ($268, interesting print mix and I love the sash); and the Puckered Up Tank ($148, incredibly adorable!).

You can check out all the new arrivals here -- this week we should see September stuff start to trickle in. Will Free Shipping no min be enough to propel you to an order? It probably would have worked for me but I already placed an order over the weekend....

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, August 23, 2015

We just had fresh cuts this past Monday, and there is an extra 20% off sale promotion running at the moment. Use the code SUNNYSKIES checkout. So I can't say I'm expecting new sale items tomorrow. However with Labor Day just a couple of weeks away in the USA one never knows...perhaps if not sale, a promotion is coming? I dunno, I feel something in my bones. There's still a lot of summer stuff languishing at full price.

It might be for naught tonight, but let's play the Sale Guessing Game and find out!

Off Topic: 50% off Friends & Family brings me right back into Banana Republic (plus more reviews!)

Friday, August 21, 2015

On this mannequin: Jacket // Sweater // Top // Jeans // Shoes
The top half of this outfit would easily work over a skirt -- this one comes to mind.

The shopping gods are conspiring with me to deliver one heck of a Fall 2015 wardrobe. Right as I'm falling in love with a bunch of what Banana Republic has to offer along comes a special cardholder promotion: 50% off up to 5 full-price items when you use your Gap family credit card. You should have received a unique code to use in-store and online in your inbox -- if you didn't your best bet is to contact customer service.

This is where BR's current limited color palette comes in super handy for me. A visit to the store meant I was able to pick up 5 items that will yield multiple outfits! I'm getting ever more excited about my Fall wardrobe!

I'm sharing a bunch of store inspiration that shows how to layer BR's longer, boxy pieces. Inside, find out what I got and some quick reviews of the things I tried on, including a bunch of the Sloan Pants.

On the hunt: Finding items elsewhere, for less

Thursday, August 20, 2015

This awesome peplum vegan leather tank is sold out at Anthropologie -- but available elsewhere!

I love Anthropologie. It's my favorite store in the world to shop at! I want them to do well. But even I am not above wondering on occasion if I can find the same third-party items Anthropologie carries somewhere else...for less.

Most times I don't really care enough to hunt the items down elsewhere. The customer experience at Anthropologie is great, and I'm not against paying for that. Nearly all of my purchases there are full-price items. On other occasions though my spending budget is stretched before I feel done shopping, and that encourages me to seek out deals. I mean, even Nordstrom price matches! Your closest competitor, Anthro. They are wise.

Sometimes Anthropologie has the item for less -- they've marked it down first or just priced it a few dollars lower. Sometimes though I can find the item I'm looking for elsewhere at a big savings. Whether it's helping a community member hunt down an item they want that's sold out at Anthropologie, or an item from my own wishlist that went on sale somewhere else first, inside are lots of deals on Anthro items...just not at Anthropologie.

Then, this afternoon we'll take a look at some items that are worth the splurge. I look forward to hearing the community's most lusted-after items!

(Sorry Anthro. I still love you!)

One of my favorite fall colors to come...

This fall's clothing color palette promises to be a rich one, full of deep jewel tones perfect for layering or combining with neutrals that already live in our closets. One of my favorite options early on in the Fall 2015 releases is garnet. Not only is garnet my birthstone, this exquisite deep red can either be brought out to its full boldness or subdued into an almost neutral tone depending on the colors you pair it with in your outfit. It's a color that works on everyone no matter what your skin tone or hair color!

Inside, some more of the fantastic currently out there and some outfit color combination ideas...

Eye Candy: Anthropologie's first Hawaii store! (plus a few more reviews)

Tuesday, August 18, 2015

After far too long a wait, Hawaii welcomed its first Anthropologie store
in the Ala Moana Shopping Center in Honolulu, on the island of Oahu.

Hawaii has long seemed like the perfect spot for Anthropologie's aesthetic -- especially its breezy summer maxis and ever-growing swim collection. But up until just a couple of months ago Hawaii had exactly zero Anthropologie stores to speak of, the closest being humorously 2,500 miles or so away.

Finally in late June Oahu welcomed Hawaii's first (and hopefully not last!!) Anthro store in Honolulu's expansive Ala Moana shopping center. I had the pleasure of stopping by the store in early July during my trip to Oahu and Kauai -- and it is a gorgeous Anthro location!

Have a look around the store with me, plus see a few things I tried on while there...

Quick hits: Reviews of some recent Anthropologie new arrivals

I needed to give the Fluttered Fete Midi Skirt ($188) a whirl.

In the interest of finally getting some of the reviews I've been sitting on up and running, I've assembled this no-frills post with quick reviews of a bunch of the Anthropologie new Fall 2015 arrivals I've tried on recently.

Come on inside for some delights and misses...

Anthropologie's really bringing their A-game right now...

Monday, August 17, 2015

The Bloomtide Necklace ($68) would be the perfect finishing touch for any late summer outfit.

Every so often I find a product that's so gorgeous it deserves its own post. I admit I've been admiring the Bloomtide Necklace ($68) pretty much all afternoon -- I keep going back to the product page, imagining myself in a v-neck or strapless dress with this lovely, lovely necklace as the finishing touch for a date, brunch with my gals or maybe even just strolling around NYC.

The necklace is resin which I love -- in the summer metals (especially nickel-plated metals) and fabric necklaces tend to bother my sensitive skin, but resin stays cool and wearable all summer long for me. The opening flower accents are delightful. I am so enamored with this piece!

It seems like Anthropologie is really bringing its jewelry A-game out right now, do you agree? I've cut down my costume jewelry collection by nearly 75% but right now there are a ton of pieces from Anthro I'd like...anything from Elizabeth Cole (especially these earrings, this necklace or this cuff) and Sarah Magid (these rings...this necklace...those earrings...yum!).

Has Anthropologie's jewelry called out to you the way it has to me recently? What's your afternoon delight today?

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, August 16, 2015

Anthropologie is running a promotion right now where you can get Free Shipping on your order of $150+ -- no code required at checkout! Recently these promotions have coincided with fresh clothing markdowns, so while we just saw a clothing sale two weeks ago (and a home sale last week) I'm optimistic that something new may be on the way tomorrow, even just a small round of fresh cuts.

What do you think? What do our incredible tipsters know? Head on inside to play the Sale Guessing Game and find out!

Mmm...Madewell!! For an extra 30% off...

Friday, August 14, 2015

The end-of-summer clothing sales continue to roll on, and Madewell definitely has one worth shopping! I'm a big fan of their soft, light summer tees and their beautiful silk dresses...not to mention their cute shoes and bags! Inside, a bunch of my sale picks include quick review details on stuff I've tried on. Plus you can take an extra 30% off using the code SPLASH30 at checkout. Yum!

Enjoy Free Shipping on Anthropologie.com this weekend!!

Here's a pretty sweet weekend deal from Anthropologie! This weekend enjoy Free Shipping on your order of $150+ -- and here's the best part -- with no code required at checkout!! That means August birthdays you can use your birthday discount on your order and get Free Shipping too! You know, the way it used to be. And was always meant to be.

Whenever a promo like this comes along I immediately check my wishlist for online exclusives that are high on my want-to-buy list. Right now that list mainly includes online-only jewelry: the Centrale Earrings ($188), Orphism Drops ($248), Orphism Collar ($498) and Mystic Seas Bib Necklace ($58).

Over in clothing, my top online-only items on my wishlist are things like the Current Tank ($78), the Alarie Dress ($298), the Clo Intimo Scalloped Lace Bikini ($32) -- which is oddly online-only even though the coordinating bra is not; and a bunch of the coated pant/jean selections including the Glossed Shapewear Leggings ($70), J Brand Alana Coated Jeans ($248) and the Paige Verdugo Coated Skinny Jeans ($199).

Recent online-only purchase successes include the Laced Peplum Jacket ($228, runs TTS but if you have an apple shape you may need to size up), the Swirled Drop Earrings ($78) which are currently showing as sold out but may pop back over the weekend and the Takara Heels (now $50) I discussed last weekend which just arrived yesterday and are amazing in my usual size 9!

Will you take advantage of this promo to try some online-only items or buy something else? Feel free to use this post to list popbacks!!!

Dots & Stripes

Thursday, August 13, 2015

How did I not notice the Chasia Dress ($178) earlier this summer?

Occasionally when I look through my wishlist I'll notice a definite pattern. So far in August it's clear my mind is on dots and stripes. Perhaps together. And why not? Right now Anthropologie has a bunch of pieces that are piquing my interest.

Take the Chasia Dress ($178) for example. How did I miss this dress when it was first released? Apparently the NYC Anthropologies have all already sold through their runs of this dress so I can't try it on without buying it first (annoying) but I plan to take the plunge anyway. Not only does this seem like the perfect late summer date dress, it could also be dressed up for parties or special events. Yum!

Inside, tops with versatility and another dress I'm keen on buying...

Quick hits: What I tried on at Banana Republic

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

On this mannequin: Jacket // Shirt // Skirt // Belt // Pumps

Going along with this morning's feature on Banana Republic, I visited a local store in NYC on a recent lunch break and snapped some photos of a few quick outfits. Obviously I didn't have a closet full of stuff to style with me so these are the bare bones of looks...with suggestions on how to complete each look.

Head inside to see what I tried...

Checking in with...Banana Republic

Blazer ($178) // Top (now $60) // Jeans ($110) // Necklace (now $45) // Bag ($158) // Shoes ($128)
I'd prefer to swap in a pair of skinny destroyed jeans, but otherwise this outfit is perfection to me.

Ahhhhh, Banana Republic. Never thought I'd say those three words together and yet these days this just might be my second favorite store to shop in! (You've been warned, Anthropologie.) How do I love thee, Banana? Let me count the ways. The longer silhouettes. The sharper, crisper cuts. The layering potential!!

And yet for some reason while I'm reveling in clothing heaven the rest of the world doesn't seem to get it quite yet. So, let's take a look at some of the Banana items I'm lusting after right now and my thoughts on why they're not getting the market traction they want at the moment...

Why now might be the best time to buy...boots! (New arrivals + super sale)

Tuesday, August 11, 2015

High up on my boots wishlist? Free People's High Noon Tall Boot ($598).

Yes, it's August. Yes, it's 90+ degrees outside most days. And yes, I'm still ready to talk about one of my favoritest favorite fall and winter items -- BOOTS!! Why talk about them now? Because while many stores are rolling out their newest items for Fall 2015 (and there are plenty to drool over inside this post) August is also one of the last months to score great deals on last year's styles and overstock.

By now I have a pretty good idea of what I want for this year. If you do too, come inside to take a look at what's good and new and what's good and on super sale...

Revisiting the easiest outfit assembler ever!

Need to make your outfits a little easier to assemble? J.Crew Factory to the rescue.

If you find yourself, as I sometimes do, staring into your closet in the morning wishing your outfit for the day would magically reveal itself to you, J.Crew Factory is here to make things a little easier. I first talked about this offshoot back in June and how easy they make it to build outfits from their multitude of coordinating items. Luxury quality? No, but I've been pleased with most every item I've purchased so far. I had a bunch of requests for a late-summer edition of the outfit combinator so here we are!

Inside, 10 easy outfits that won't break the bank. Work, casual and day-to-nite are all covered!

Investigating Anthropologie's newest arrivals

Monday, August 10, 2015

August outfit perfection? I think so.

August is in full swing at Anthropologie, where the new arrivals for this month have been trickling in over the last several days. This morning in particular saw some great additions to the new arrivals section! Inside, many of my favorite new pieces...

Anthropologie's SALE has plenty of home offerings, plus a Dining promo!!

There's an Anthropologie home sale this morning...however, the sale prices are not reflecting on the newest cuts. While the Fresh Cuts sale section has lots of new home items that will be marked down the sale prices haven't yet shown up.

From what will eventually be on sale once Anthropologie's tech team is able to resolve the issue, my favorites include the Speckled Stone Canister, the Laundress Denim Wash, the Sura Storage Bench and Sura Console (seriously gorgeous, both!!), the Easy Like Sundae Ice Cream Bowls which make me want ice cream right now and the beyond adorable Flower Pup Pillow, which should really come in more breeds! (Cinnamon volunteers for the Shiba Inu pillow.) I'll update these with prices once the sale price shows up.

If none of the new sale items tempt you, Anthropologie is also running a dining promo right now! Select dining and entertaining essentials are 20% off -- no code required. You can see all the items in the promo here. I was thinking about picking up some more Latte Bowls (now $29), Style No. 973328, during this promo...I use them for so much! My morning cottage-cheese berry bowls. Cereal. Popcorn. I wish they still made the teeny version of the latte bowls too! I can also highly recommend the Marbled Ink Dinnerware (now $13-$63), Style No. 33885104. I started with the bowls, which have a big flat serving surface inside perfect for appetizers, veggie plates with hummus, and so on. Since then I've added plates and I'm so delighted with the set! I'd love to add the serving pieces too...

Late summer sale finds brightening up my closet...

Sunday, August 9, 2015

I love the smoky blue-grey of Free People's Classic Vegan Crossbody (now $30).

NOTE: There will be a home sale tomorrow at Anthropologie. No sale guessing game tonite! Also, LAST CHANCE for my closet sale -- items remaining heading off to local consignment on Tuesday...

As summer rolls on my patience pays off. I didn't need very much in the way of warm-weather clothing this year so full-price temptations were few. Now as the fall clothing starts to roll in while the temperatures remain high I'm taking advantage of sale prices to fill the little holes that remain in my summer wardrobe for this year.

One of my favorite sale buys recently is Free People's Classic Vegan Crossbody (now $30) above. You can get a great idea of the size of the bag via the model shot on the product page. I came across the bag in FP's huge, recently-expanded Rockefeller Center (NYC) flagship store. I was immediately drawn to the smoky, cloudy blue-grey color and the buttery texture, which is pleather but still has enough of that leather look and feel. I love the smiley-face style CĂ©line-evoking front, which has a lip pocket. Inside there's a zipper pocket attached diagonally, which helps the bag keep its rectangular shape. It's not a huge bag -- for example my iPad fits either on its side or bottom with plenty of room to spare but my sleek, relatively-tiny work MacBook sticks out when slid in on its side...the bag is not wide enough to fit the laptop slid in on its bottom.

What I can fit in is plenty for the day-to-day though: a small makeup bag, my wallet, my keys, my iPad, my huge noise-cancelling headphones, face wipes, hand sanitizer, my iPhone 6, and occasionally a pair of sandals to trade my heels in for after a long day or on the way to work. And on the weekends it's so easy to tote a large a bottle of water around, a must for these dog days of summer. For $30, it's hard to beat that function!

More closet-pleasing sale finds, inside...

Off Topic: Late summer lovers, Free People is here for you

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

This outfit: the Tatiana Sexy Back Mini ($78) in deep plum and the Oleria Tie Necklace ($138).
Date night perfection with a cardigan over it, I'm thinking.

I'm not ready to say goodbye to summer quite yet. (It is about 95 degrees in NYC right now after all.) While many retailers are urging us to think of changing leaves and cooler breezes, some places are still ready to cater to us summer lovers. Tops on my list? Free People of course. I go to them for everything the opposite of Anthropologie. When I want super flowy, roomy, inexplicably at times boho stuff, Free People is there to tempt me.

What's on my late-summer wishlist? Step inside and find out...
