If you're going to whip yourself into shape, you may as well look great doing it

Wednesday, December 31, 2014

One of my delights in learning to love exercise has been watching active wear grow into a legit style business. It may sound superficial but when I'm working out I want to feel good about my body from the moment I put the clothes on to hours later when my classes for the day are done and I'm sweaty to the bone. This time of year many people make the promise to themselves to get into shape or get back into shape or whatever. I'm not much into New Years' resolutions myself, but if you're leaning towards getting into the gym why not look amazing doing it? Yes, now, before you've even begun.

For a long time it was impossible to find workout clothes that fit me or supported or my bust and this is coming from someone of average size. Luckily as the industry grows and companies see the chance for profit the sizes available continue to grow and better yet, the clothes look better and better.

Beyond the basic black, inside you'll find some of my favorite workout gear picks, plus my favorite places to get the gear.

Investigating Anthropologie's newest arrivals

Tuesday, December 30, 2014

My body is in New York but my mind has already made the jump to Costa Rica.
Perhaps I'll pack Anthro's Dip-Dye Linen Tunic ($152).

Hello from home in NYC, where I have about 3 days before hitting the road again. After a beautiful vacation in Stowe, Vermont I am chilling on my couch til New Year's Eve. With 2014 drawing to a close I'm looking ahead to January 2015 and all the delightful things it will bring. Snow! (Hopefully.) My birthday! (Excitedly.) And trips to warm weather. (Finally!) I've got another 6 weeks of work-related travel before settling down back home, so it's going to be a little while yet before I can get into a store to do any reviews. Hopefully on one of my home layovers I can make the trip to try some stuff on.

Is Anthropologie releasing a January catalogue? I'm not even sure...usually they have their lookbook previews up by now but there's nothing yet. January babies always get the shaft as everyone else comes down off their holiday highs. Even without a lookbook Anthro's mind is clearly on resort with some transitional winter pieces mixed in and so is mine. Inside, some of my favorites from the latest releases.

Anthropologie's winter TAG SALE arrives with an extra 25% off sale!!

Friday, December 26, 2014

Happy Tag Sale Friday! Anthropologie's winter Tag Sale is here, with 25% off already marked down sale items. Use the code INAFLURRY at checkout. In case you missed it due to Christmas festivities there were tons of new markdowns yesterday! Stuff is predictably starting to move really fast so if you're thinking about a purchase and have the budget I'd say make it and then decide when the item arrives -- too many times I see people going crazy looking for an item they feel they've 'missed'.

A few quick FAQ answers:
- You CANNOT combine the birthday discount with this promo
- BHLDN and holiday decor are excluded from this promo
- Anthropologie's official line is no PAs, however all holiday season they've been honoring them
- Anthropologie stores are open today -- Yay! And some will have treats out

One more note about PAs: you can only ask for one price adjustment per purchase. So if you've already requested a PA on an order, purchase or item, you can't ask for another one.

Will you be Tag Sale-ing today? I plan to! Here's what's in my cart right now: the Pleated Eclat Dress (now $120), the Hadley Pointelle Tunic in plum (now $68), the Emberglow Blouse (now $45), the Botanica Neoprene Sweatshirt (now $45).

Also this morning, Free People is offering 25% off its sale items for TODAY ONLY. Yeah I'm taking the plunge there too -- I've been saving my birthday discount there for this. No code required; discount reflects at checkout.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go check out before the items I want are out of stock! Happy Sale Hunting all!!

Anthropologie's SALE is ready for your post-Christmas delight!

Thursday, December 25, 2014

Merry Christmas all! Anthropologie's not wasting a moment -- they've given us tons of fresh markdowns this morning, 13 pages worth in the fresh cuts section!

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Wednesday, December 24, 2014

We should wake up tomorrow morning to new Anthropologie markdowns, plus an extra % off sale items. Before that can happen though we have to guess what might go on sale. Expect cuts across all clothing departments, plus accessories and home. Especially holiday stuff! An Anthro Christmas Elf has provided a pretty solid list of things we can expect to see marked down tomorrow...

It's not too late to get 20% off ANYTHING on Anthropologie's site right now -- use the code EXTRACHEER at checkout. This promo will end overnight before the sale begins.

Anthropologie stores will be closed tomorrow but the website's always open. Might be worth it to load up your cart tonight. It's time to play the Sale Guessing Game!

What's the best last-minute Christmas gift?

E-Gift Cards -- the procrastinator's savior. This one from Free People.

I've always loved getting gift cards for the holiday or my birthday. Sure, it's amazing when a friend or family member somehow guesses exactly what I wanted or comes through with a surprise so delightful that I'm stunned to tears. But why put that kind of pressure on someone you love? And it's kind of awkward when you receive a gift you don't want...living in a tiny space means there isn't much room for that thing you didn't really want but have to keep...and really, I'd rather see someone and get their gift of their time and love than get a trinket that means nothing.

So, gift cards are where it's at as far as I'm concerned! Two years ago a group of 18 of my girlfriends and I put together a gift card grab bag. Each year we all buy $100 gift cards from an agreed-on set of stores -- no more than one from each store -- and then we get together for dinner, put the cards in a bag and take turns drawing. It's worked out so well...everyone is happy with their gift, even if they end up with the card they bought! You can feel the love afterwards.

But if you're sitting in front of your computer right now and wondering what the heck to get that person you forgot about, or that person that's impossible to shop for, e-gift cards are your easiest solution! They arrive instantly. You can even sleep easy tonight and get it in the morning if you want. Santa will be so jealous. Trust me, most people will be happy to receive a gift card instead of a pair of socks. Unless it's this pair of socks, in which case thank you very very much!

Below, some e-gift card options beyond the standard (but still appreciated!) Starbucks and iTunes. I'm sure there are many more -- where would you like to receive an e-gift card from?

Congratulations to...

I have two contest winners to announce this morning! First, congratulations to Emily, the winner of the Fleurette Accessories contest!!! The winner has claimed her prize...and her very excited daughter has already picked out 20+ bows she'd like...they're currently narrowing it down.

If you're sad about not winning, Shannon from Fleurette Accessories has offered a lovely holiday pick-me-up -- use the code EAFAN in her Etsy shop for 20% off any item -- including adult headbands and hairclips!! This code expires January 31, 2015.

And in slightly older contest news, congrats to Angela, winner of the custom pet portrait from Dafonte Art! The winner has claimed her prize and I'm excited to see how it turns out. Dara has a real talent for capturing pets' personalities in her art.

Wishing for a custom pet portrait of your own? Until January 31 2015 Dafonte Art is offering Free Shipping on any of her shop items using the code PHOENIX. In addition to pet portraits Dara also creates custom TOMS -- take a look!

Congratulations to both winners! EA will be hosting more contests soon in the new year.

A jolly good Anthropologie promotion :: 20% off EVERYTHING!!!

Monday, December 22, 2014

Anthropologie's launched a jolly good deal this morning -- 20% off everything!! This promo says it runs for a limited time only which means probably longer than today, hooray! Because I'm sure that many people are in the same boat as me right now, not at home but with family and friends and I won't even be able to look around to see what I might want until very late tonight. Perhaps après ski. With all my gift-buying done, if I do get anything it will most likely be a new pair of jeans. I'm rather in love with these Racer jeans -- I already have them in black -- even though it's beyond ridiculous to pay so much for destroyed jeans.

What a nice surprise though! Will you take advantage of this promotion? Use the code EXTRACHEER at checkout.

{Weekly} Popbacks Open Thread

Friday, December 19, 2014

By request of the community comes this weekly post. Please use this post to list website popbacks that you see on your wishlist, via search engines, or in your shopping cart. Popbacks go very quickly but hopefully by having them in one place will be helpful. Please do not use this post for store sightings.

Get your NYE look ready with Free Shipping at Anthropologie -- today only!!!

Thursday, December 18, 2014

Are you fully prepared for New Year's Eve yet? If not, Anthropologie's encouraging us to take a look through all their sparkly and festive options and get Free Shipping to boot, today only! Get Free Shipping on your Anthropologie.com order of $100+ today -- use the code ONEDAY at checkout.

My NYE dress for the past two years has been this Free People dress (though I wear the ivory version shown here). Like Anthro, Free People has some fantastic party dress options...although most are even more expensive than Anthro's options, which is hard to fathom.

From Anthropologie's options I'm quite enamored with the Foil Brocade Mini Dress ($248). I tried it on quickly at the Rockefeller Center Anthropologie and it looks beautiful on. However, if you are busty like me (I'm a 34D) you'll need to size up at least two sizes -- I took a 10 instead of my usual 6 because the bust area is cut to fit like a glove.

Have you tried on any of Anthro's party dresses this season? Purchased any? Please share in the comments!

Anthropologie takes 20% off select gifts -- and there are LOTS to choose from!

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Hello from the road, where internet connections are hazy and typing on a laptop isn't exactly easy along bumpy grade! This morning Anthropologie launched a new promotion -- 20% off gifts. The gifts range from jewelry to PJs (like the pretty Winter Rose Robe ($168) above!) to cold weather gear and holiday decor. There's 7 pages of options in all to thumb through!

Taking a quick look these would be my picks: the Aurora String Lights (now $27-$64) and Snowball String Lights (now $26) -- I own both and they're delightful, nice low lights for chilly winter evening romance; the Lilka Pommed Booties (now $71); the Sweaterknit Cocoon Robe (now $135); the Starlight Pin Point Bobbys (now $20, perfect for accenting a holiday look!); the Face Stockholm Galaxy Glitter (now $15, awesome for NYE); the beautiful Annevi Cone Bracelet (now $319) and the Sparkled Sequin Ornament (now $7-$12).

Will you be shopping these discounted gifts? You can see them all here.

Check your wishlists -- 2nd/3rd/etc CUTS are here!

Sunday, December 14, 2014

Update 6:45 AM ET: OK, this isn't quite as splashy as I was hoping it would be. From the looks of my wishlist, Anthropologie is trying to clear out old stock that's been sitting around in store.

Still, do check your wishlists this morning because 2nd/3rd/etc cuts are plentiful! Mostly on much older items...think summer leftovers and early fall transitional pieces. The Woodland Walk Buttondown (now $50) is also on promo beginning today.

The Fresh Cuts sale page on Anthropologie's site has been updating nice and early this month -- around 7 AM ET. If there are any new cuts, they will show up there. PLUS there's also FREE SHIPPING right now -- details here -- hopefully it overlaps with these cuts so as popbacks appear we can take advantage of free shipping!

Contest time! Win two custom hair accessories from Fleurette Accessories

Friday, December 12, 2014

Killer hair accessories for kids? I'm in. Enter to win this piece or others by Fleurette Accessories!

As a kid, I used to looovvveee wearing pretty bows of all shapes and sizes in my hair. Headbands too. So I am beyond delighted to announce a contest with Friend of EA Fleurette Accessories, sure to delight any little adornment lover!

Anthropologie sweetens the deal this weekend with FREE SHIPPING!

Anthropologie decided that its recently-launched sweater promo isn't enough for the weekend -- it's added Free Shipping on orders of $150+ to sweeten the dealUse the code HAPPYGIFTING at checkout.

Since prices for the sweater promo already reflect its discount, this code can be used in combination with the sweater promo. However this means you can't use your birthday discount and get free shipping at the same time.

Anthro likely will not be giving out PAs for shipping for orders placed yesterday. But if you want something besides a sweater and shipping was deterring you, this may be the incentive you've been waiting for!

Will you place an order from Anthro's website this weekend now that Free Shipping is here? Feel free to use this thread to post popbacks!!

Be sure to come back to EA later this morning -- a new contest is launching!!!

Warm yourself up with Anthropologie's newest promotion!!

Thursday, December 11, 2014

Anthropologie has indeed launched a new promotion this morning -- take 25% off sweaters (sale sweaters too!), in-store and online for a limited time. Prices are as marked which means you can use the birthday discount. Hooray!

Quick picks: the Cabled Ella Pullover (now $89), the Barnegat Pullover (now $74, way cuter in real life!), the Cabled Boucle Pullover (now $96), the Hadley Pointelle Tunic (now $96, OMG that plum), the Confetti Striped Pullover (now $104), the Marled Hills Sweater (now $45).

Will you be cozying up to this promotion?

Final hours for extra 30% off Anthropologie sale! I wonder what's next...

Wednesday, December 10, 2014

I just noticed that Anthropologie's website has updated to show today is the last day to enjoy an extra 30% off sale items using the code EXTRAMERRY at checkout.

If there's a sale item you've been waiting to grab, now is a great time to do it. Does this mean a new promo is coming tomorrow? I'm excited to find out! I hope it involves candles and all things smelling delightful.

I love it when a story has a happy ending! (RewardStyle update)

Tuesday, December 9, 2014

Note: This is an update to this post.

Is this an early holiday miracle of sorts? I'd like to think so. After two months of ongoing discussions with RewardStyle I'm delighted to share that the matter has been resolved amicably, and that my relationship with them has returned to 'good' status from 'hmmmm' status.

Although I was not able to recover all of the commission I lost back in May, RewardStyle was able to recover a good chunk of the commissions working with the publisher whose tracking had failed. Their technical team did a lot of digging on my behalf just as I would expect from any partner. While I was digging into the issue more deeply on my side RS's team made several higher level managers available to me to talk through everything I saw and work through our discrepancies together. What started off pretty rough turned out to be a good learning experience for everyone involved.

I want to thank the community because your support has been instrumental to me in this issue!! Many of you reached out to me to offer advice, words of support, and alternate roads for me to travel down. I've gotten emails from you to check in on the progress which is why I wanted to share the update here. Not only that, I was (happily!) shocked when several of my advertisers and partners reached out to express their support. Having a wide range of people behind me helped to galvanize trudging through sludge to arrive at this satisfactory outcome.

I feel this issue has been resolved to the best result possible for all parties. One of the frequent suggestions I received was working with another affiliate partner...and while that's an avenue I already pursue by diversifying my resources, RewardStyle is a valuable partner for me and I like keeping my partnerships intact. They do what they do well. So long as everything remains in good standing with no surprises and nothing changes moving forward, everything is good again! And that makes me happy.

Most importantly, there is now a gameplan in place moving forward that focuses on prevention of issues like this as well as a quicker response when issues do happen and clearer lines of communication. I have to say that my Account Manager at RS has been amazing through all of this and a pleasure to work with. I have learned so much too, between making sure I keep my own analytics data longer and communication improvements I can make. Owning a small business is a challenging yet rewarding learning experience!

A few years ago I went through a similarly challenging issue with another one of my affiliate partners, and today that relationship is golden with lots of shared wins for both sides. I hope that a similar future lies ahead with RewardStyle.

Racked explores why it's so fun to wander through an Anthropologie store over and over and over again

Monday, December 8, 2014

Racked, those intrepid reporters on all things shopping, have given Anthropologie a lovely in-depth feature about how Anthro's 'intoxicating in-store experience' comes together. What's the secret formula for hours of browsing success? A lot of visual design talent, a guiding light from the home office and a few more keys all detailed in the article. (I can't very well give it all away here!)

Back in 2007 the web boutique I was working for relocated from Manhattan's Union Square to the Flatiron district...just blocks away from the 5th Avenue Anthropologie. I used to wile away many a lunch break not eating but instead wandering through rack after rack of the store, obsessing over bedding layouts and pondering which dress would come home with me when my next paycheck arrived.

When my next job brought me down to Soho (and my relationship relocated me to Wall St), the West Broadway Soho Anthropologie became my lunch break home, so much so that my company's owner and CEO used to tease me if I didn't come back to the office with an Anthropologie shopping bag. There's just always been something about the store that feels like an adventure...from the way the displays and racks and windows update regularly to the very smell of the place. As far as shopping goes, it is my idea of heaven.

Racked's feature digs in to how Anthropologie goes about accomplishing this, and though there is a little PR slather in there it's an excellent look behind the curtain and I love it! Give it a read and share your thoughts here or on Racked's site.

Surprise! There are new additions and 2nd/3rd/etc cuts in Anthropologie's SALE this morning!

Anthropologie's run of surprise markdowns continues and so does their extra 30% off sale promo! This morning there are a bunch of fresh cuts mixed between clothing, shoes, accessories and home as well as 2nd/3rd/etc cuts. Use the code EXTRAMERRY at checkout for your extra 30% off sale.

I'm on the road for work at the moment so I won't be able to do a full sale post this morning. I am shocked to see fresh cuts again this week -- didn't expect anything new til next week! Feel free to share 2nd/3rd/etc cuts in the comments.

Here are some quick picks from the freshest cuts:

Check your mailboxes Anthropologie lovers!

Thursday, December 4, 2014

Anthropologie wants to wrap all of its arms around us!

There may be a little something something in your mailbox from Anthropologie! Several community members have reported receiving a holiday gift from Anthro -- mostly the Artic Explorer Ornament shown above. What a fun (and slightly creepy-looking maybe?) delight!

It's not uncommon for retailers to send a holiday gift to its top customers. I get a little something from J.Crew each year and in the past I've received from Anthro, Saks, and a few other retailers. It's a nice little thank you for your loyalty gesture.

Everyone always asks how retailers select the people that receive gifts. Is it based on how much you spend? How often you visit the store? Placing an order that hits a certain price threshold? After tons of calculations, algorithmic experimentation and technical research I've come to the following conclusion:

I don't know.

Most likely it's a combination of factors, or perhaps they simply draw names out of a hat. Who knows? Who cares? Your mailbox may have a little extra Anthropologie delight in it and really that's all that matters. I'm a big fan of this ornament myself, and this one fits right into the beyond quirky category too.

Wishing you could win something from Anthropologie? They're running a pretty awesome contest right now...

Whoa! Anthropologie's SALE has updated, and is now 30% off!!

Wednesday, December 3, 2014

Anthropologie caught me totally asleep on this one -- literally! I've just awoken to discover that Anthro added fresh cuts to sale this morning; and even better all sale is now an extra 30% off! Use the code EXTRAMERRY at checkout.

Unbelievable! Anthro is really on a roll right now!! Taking a quick glance I see some pretties like the Gossamer Tee (now $40), the Baikal Dress (now $120) which I tried on and loved, and the pretty pretty Snowlace Dress (now $90).

Time to get your sale on.

BHLDN is also playing today with 20% off all sale items!! Use the code SAYIDO at checkout. (BHLDN does not do PAs unfortunately.)

Cyber Monday is kind of a relic at this point, invented to spur ecommerce at a time when people were hesitant to shop online. Hard to remember now, right? I do probably 80% of my shopping online now...though stores are still critical to me to try items on and often while in-store I'll fall in love with something that didn't tempt me online.

I'm sure many people will ask about PAs on shipping for orders placed yesterday -- as always, my line is that Anthropologie officially says no but it never hurts to ask. Just know it's not guaranteed.

There are tons of other deals around the webby world today; but in the spirit of not going overboard allow me to mention just a few that are really worth it in my eyes.

- Piperlime is 30% off full-priced items and 40% off sale with the code CYBERSALE
- Amazon has a promotion running today, take 30% off a wide range of clothing, accessories and shoes. A similar deal starts tomorrow -- picks tomorrow!
- Free People is offering 25% off all sale items

Do you plan to do any more shopping today? I've still got gifts to buy so for me the answer is heck yes!
