The weekend in-store community post

Friday, October 31, 2014

I have noticed a lot of community members sharing in-store deals and spots in the comments of various posts. Inspired by the weekly Seek & Find posts started by the lovely Alexis over at J.Crew Aficionada, I think now is a good time to start a similar weekly post here.

Attention Financial District: You're about to get a HUGE Anthropologie!

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

Anthropologie has signed a lease for 195 Broadway at Dey Street
in Manhattan's super chic Financial District (my former neighborhood!).
So says the New York Post.

Anthropologie has just taken out a lease on nearly 29,000 square feet of retail space in lower Manhattan. What could they possibly want with that much space? Hmmm, I wonder.

Get first dibs on Anthro's 2014 holiday collection -- it's good!!

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

The Montage Maxi Dress ($248), part of Anthropologie's Holiday 2014 collection.

Mini-update on the RewardStyle commission tracking error issue: Looks like my tracking cookies are not working this morning, a violation of the EA Terms of Use. Let's see how long they play games before actually upholding their service agreement. As of this morning, no response to my last email to them. I'll keep the community updated as this situation is resolved.

Yesterday Anthropologie unveiled its holiday collection in the form of a first dibs email for Anthro members! I'm still catching up to Monday myself...but I'm very delighted by what I see! Check out all the first dibs items here or head inside for the most intriguing selections and thoughts to kick off the discussion. Sparkly maxis! Bows over boobs! Body-hugging sheaths, intricate embroidery, peplums, they're all part of the selection!!

There's an unbelievable sale right now at Girls From Savoy!!!

Monday, October 27, 2014

Oh my goodness, the deals right now on the Girls From Savoy website are ridiculously good! Their sale is on further sale -- take an extra 30% off all sale items for a very limited time using the code PRE-FALL at checkout.

Jeans from Mother and J Brand for less than $50 -- pairs that are retailing upwards of $150 elsewhere. Designer dresses from the likes of Karen Walker, Tracy Reese and outfits from Tibi for a fraction of their full retail prices. Cute skirts under $40; tops too!

Inside, some picks from the sale. I can't believe the steals this store has right now!! Way too good to pass up...

Take 20% off on a HUGE selection of boots & booties at Amazon.com!!

Saturday, October 25, 2014

photo source -- what a lovely pic of the Dolce Vita Haelyn bootie.
It's among the boots 20% off at Amazon for just a few more days!

A huge thanks to Anthropolitan, who mentioned that Amazon is currently running a 20% off boots promotion! While not every boot they sell is eligible hundreds of items are including high-end brands like Loeffler Randall, Frye, with plenty of riding boots, dress boots, over-the-knee options, booties and (thankfully) plenty of wide-calf options too!

Inside, some of the promo-eligible styles that caught my eye. Note that most of these boots are full-price elsewhere, making this quite the sweet deal just in time for colder weather.

Feeling helpless, lost and confused and I could really use the community's help!!

Thursday, October 23, 2014

This photo pretty much sums up how I'm feeling right now.

NOTE: This issue has been resolved amicably. (Yay!) Here's the update.

Community, it is really hard for me to say this, but I need help! Advice, thoughts, words of wisdom. I find myself in a very strange situation with one of my affiliate programs, RewardStyle, and I'm just not sure what to at this point. Can you help me?

Reviews: Sugared Ruby Sheath, Astilbe Swing Dress, Risen Sun Sweater Dress, Third Street Tunic, Lasercut Basalt Sheath, Ophira Dot Dress

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

Every year Anthropologie has one crazy yet appealing sweater dress.
This year it's the Risen Sun Sweater Dress ($148), reviewed in this set.

Continuing to make my way through a bunch of Anthropologie dresses I've tried on recently, here are six more that appealed to me online. How'd they do in real life? The results are mixed.

Quick tangent: liking the new product pages Anthropologie! Especially love that you can now click to zoom the product thumbnails -- yay! HATING the way the #yourAnthropologie photos autoscroll -- there's just a peek of it visible when I first hit the product page and it's super distracting.

Quicklist: Fall & Winter work dresses on my radar

A menswear-for-women twist I can get behind. Vince Camuto's Lace Hem Check Dress ($159).
This dress runs a little big, size down. I went for a 4 instead of my usual 6.

Right now my workwear requirements are all over the place. For the regular in-office days I need pieces that are modern yet conservative...not exactly easy among the current trend of super-short skirts and plunging workwear necklines. Then for my out and about days I need pieces that are chic, modern and on-trend. And then for the evening events I'm attending I need elegance, length and artistic merit.

It's budget-busting, though working for a large fashion company does yield the benefit of being able to borrow pieces every so often. For daywear it's mostly up to me so I've been building two Pinterest inspiration boards: the conservative daywear looks and the chic daywear looks.

Inside this post, a quick list breakdown on my conservative daywear options (all dresses for now) for your perusing pleasure. Some (not all) of these dresses are on the Pinterest boards if you prefer to see photos...and I also have photos on the boards beyond what's included here.

Afternoon delight: the ideal winter work dress

Tuesday, October 21, 2014

Every so often during my online clothing hunt I come across an item that makes me stop in my tracks, forget what I was doing and just drool. I may not need every item I want, I may not be able to afford every item I want, but I can certainly appreciate every item I want!

Today's afternoon delight: the winter work dress I want more than any other, courtesy of Victoria Beckham.

I'm just a little into grey this fall, as in nearly everything on my Fall/Winter shopping list is grey or has grey components. I love this simple shift for the graduated skirt...the elegant shape...the ease of layering over it (I'm thinking this Joie turtleneck or some kind of cape-style winter coat) or under it.

This stunner's going to have to wait. Though it's available for a slightly lower price via Farfetch, the USA retail price at Nordstrom, Shopbop and Stylebop means I need to save up my pennies or wait for some kind of super sale. I think the design is classic enough that even if I end up waiting til end of season to pick the dress up, it will still be alluring next year. What do you think?

I had a workwear post scheduled to run today but due to Anthropologie's sale it's been bumped to tomorrow. Also coming tomorrow? Fresh Anthro reviews!

What's your afternoon delight today?

Turn your pet into a masterpiece with a custom pet portrait by Dafonte Art!!!

Unlike the real cat subject of this piece, the painting will never suddenly bite you.
Enter to win a custom pet portrait by dafonteart.

Are you a pet owner? Animal lover? Want the perfect gift for a dog lover, or perhaps just a way to forever capture your dog in art form? EA has teamed up with dafonteart to launch one sweet giveaway for animal lovers!

Anthropologie's SALE arrives midflight! With an extra 25% OFF!

Well, well, Anthropologie. Look who's having a sale today! The markdowns arrived while I was in the air early this morning on my way to an out-of-NYC work meeting so this won't be a full sale post.

EVEN BETTER, sale is an extra 25% off!!! Use the code EXTRAEXTRA at checkout.

Thanks to everyone in the community who alerted us to the sale! You can check out Anthropologie's Fresh Cuts sale page or head inside the post for the best of the new sale items. Are you parktaking in sale today? (I did. An extra 25% off is so nice!)

Afternoon delight: the perfect classic J.Crew sweater...but it's from J Brand

Monday, October 20, 2014

Every so often during my online clothing hunt I come across an item that makes me stop in my tracks, forget what I was doing and just drool. I may not need every item I want, I may not be able to afford every item I want, but I can certainly appreciate every item I want!

Today's afternoon delight: the perfect grey cotton sweater. Like J.Crew used to make. Only this one is by J Brand!

Back when I was in middle school (yes, you read that right) I fell in love with J.Crew's winter merino sweaters. They were perfect. Long, ribbed cuffs. Ideal grey color. Warm. Soft. Fantastic crew neckline. Hit at the right spot on my junior high hips. I wore those sweaters for all of high school, most of college and after moving back to NYC post-university. What has happened?!? These days it's impossible to walk into J.Crew and find a simple, classic, well-made sweater. I don't want to delve deeper into it -- it's just too upsetting!

The wound was made raw all over again when I spotted the photo above, taken from a German fashion magazine. How cute is this as a fall work outfit? PERFECT J.Crew-esque sweater, scarf, blazer (I'd do a solid schoolboy style rather than striped), coffee, and we're all set to roll. I was determined to somehow make this look come real.

So thank you J Brand for creating the Helms sweater in your ready-to-wear line! It's the closest thing I've found to the sweaters I remember from years past. It fits well and has the same longer ribbing on the wrists and bottom hemline. It is so soft too! To recreate the look above I wear the J Brand Helms Sweater, this Anthro scarf, and a Club Monaco black schoolboy blazer (similar).

The sweater is available on a number of retailer websites including Saks Fifth Ave, CUSP and Barney's. Better yet, it's on sale at Intermix (least expensive but final sale!), J Brand's own website and the Dreslyn. An investment piece sure to pay dividends for years and years.

What's your afternoon delight today?

Lunch break: A killer deal at Piperlime

Doing some fall/winter shopping? Do you like percent off your purchases? Well then read on, because Piperlime has a pretty sweet deal going on right now -- with an even bigger stackable discount for Gap/Banana Republic/Old Navy cardholders.

With colder weather, Anthropologie's sweaters are better

This sweater looks warm, cozy, and feminine. The killer combo I'm looking for!
The Whipstitched Boucle Sweater ($98), among Anthropologie's latest releases.

Note: Anthropologie has taken 30% off booties and select sweaters, tops and pants...today is the last day. Details here.

Temperatures in NYC plunged overnight and after a trip to Colorado where there was snow in the mountains I'm ready for sweaters! Anthropologie has released more and more cold-weather options. Inside, what's good, what has me scratching my head, and what I'd hoped to see but haven't yet...

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, October 19, 2014

Is it time for more markdowns at Anthropologie? True, they are running a 30% off booties promotion for a limited time. For those of us who aren't in the market for booties right now a sale sure would be sweet! Let's play the Sale Guessing Game and encourage Anthro to break out those red marking down markers.

Friends & Family season is upon us -- work-ready picks from Saks Fifth Ave's 25% off!

Friday, October 17, 2014

Friends and Family season is upon us once again! The major department stores are currently rolling though their seasonal discounts. This weekend it's Saks Fifth Avenue's turn -- get 25% off your purchase (20% off jewelry) using the code FRNFAM at checkout. This store is one of my go-to places for work clothing. Inside, some of my picks for fall and winter-ready work dresses. (With more work clothing posts to come next week!)

Anthropologie has launched a new 30% off promo!

Thursday, October 16, 2014

It's 30% off day at Anthropologie! A limited selection of clothing has been temporarily marked down -- see the freshest cuts here. How long will this last? My guess is just for the weekend.

In the mood for some new shoes? Of the bootie kind perhaps? Well then, Anthropologie's got you covered this weekend! Nearly all of its bootie selection is 30% off right now -- including rare-to-sale brands like Woolrich, Rachel Comey, Frye, Coclico and more. My main thought? I had no clue Anthro offers so many booties! Inside, the sale selections...

Are you ready for an Anthropologie department store?

Thursday, October 9, 2014

Would you buy an outfit, get a blowout, and eat lunch at Anthropologie?

How much time do you spend in an Anthropologie store on each visit? Can you see yourself spending an entire morning, afternoon or perhaps even day there? Anthro's hoping so. On the heels of three straight exceptional quarter performances parent company Urban Outfitters has unveiled plans to supersize Anthropologie from a store into something so much more: a destination.

Reviews: Moulinette Soeurs for the win! (French Fields Gown, Baikal Dress, Pinion Dress, Vegan Leather Shift Dress)

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Moulinette Soeurs is back to classic Anthro form! Trying on the Pinion Dress ($168) and three more.

I'm not going to pretend that Anthropologie's late summer and early fall offerings pleased me one bit...on my last few store visits however I've left with a shopping bag every time. The brand impressing me the most right now? It'd have to be old stalwart Moulinette Soeurs which is coming out with some beautiful prints upon flattering dresses! I had hoped to find the Handpainted Island Dress ($348) or Equinox Pleated Maxi Dress ($188)...I found neither but did find some other amazing options!

I hadn't planned to buy any more printed dresses this year but these options are so good that thought might fly right out the window.

Anthropologie's SALE warms up any chilly fall morning!

Monday, October 6, 2014

Anthropologie has uncorked new sale items this morning featuring fresh cuts in both clothing and homewares (note: those pages will not update until around 9 AM ET). It's a rather large sale by early Fall standards, no doubt with the goal of clearing floor space for for cold-weather goodies.

Inside, the starter list.

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, October 5, 2014

It's time for an Anthropologie sale! Will we wake up to markdowns in the morning? I certainly hope so! Let's play the Sale Guessing Game and wonder and wish until the sun comes back up.

Want $25 off your Anthropologie purchase in October? Here's how to get it...

Friday, October 3, 2014

This is pretty exciting! Anthropologie is running a special promotion during the month of October (aka one of my favorite Anthro months since their Fall clothing is properly in-store!). This month, when you schedule a Personal Stylist session in-store or online you'll get $25 off your purchase!

Do you use the Personal Stylists? I love them. I ask to work with one just about every time I'm in-store (which is a lot). I see a lot of community comments about not knowing what to pair a particular Anthropologie item with...well, this is exactly what the Stylists are here for! And they're awesome in my experience.

I've spoken with some Anthropologie lovers who get hung up on feeling pressured to buy if they work with a stylist. And while I totally understand this fear you should know that Anthro's Stylists are salaried employees, so they're not in the business of making a sale over customer service. Quite the opposite. Will a Personal Stylist sometimes push my fashion boundaries or ask me to try on something I'd never try myself? Totally. Do I end up liking what they put together for me? Almost always. Do I buy it? Sometimes.

If you want to make your Anthro more versatile this is the way to go. These Personal Stylists have a keen eye for knowing the full range of offerings and putting together pairings we might not think of, but look amazing. I think I'm going to book a session today...

For $25 off, why not? I want this dress, dammit.
