Checking in with Anthropologie's Spring Tops

Wednesday, April 30, 2014

The Shimmered Azucar Tunic ($98), among the tops on my try-on list.

Although my last few times trying on tops at Anthropologie haven't been all that impressive (see the reviews here and here) suddenly my wishlist is once again overflowing with tops to try. Inside, a bunch of the ones I'll be looking for and then I'd love to hear your choices in the comments! Plus, some non-Anthro tops I've bought recently that I love.

Reviews: Three-Act Maxi Dress, Galen Dress, Toda Vista Swing Dress, Giedi Dress, Stitched Blossom Dress, Flora Vignette Dress

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

Put two lovely scarves together and you get the Flora Vignette Dress ($168).

Joining last week's dress reviews, here's my take on another set of fantastic frocks from Anthropologie.

Playing the Sale Guessing Game

Sunday, April 27, 2014

With tonight's Extra 20% off sale promotion end, will tomorrow bring more Anthropologie sale?!? Let's play the Sale Guessing Game and find out!!

Eye Candy: Anthropologie May 2014 Lookbook

Saturday, April 26, 2014

Anthropologie's May 2014 Lookbook has been unveiled! This time around the setting is Mexico -- read all about it and see a cute video on Anthro's official blog. I like the second half of the catalogue better than the first, mostly because of all the white which I love in high summer. There's no denying this clothing would be perfect in a tropical or beach setting. Would this stuff work on the streets of Manhattan in the middle of summer? That's a little more challenging to reconcile.

I'm still waiting for the city girl goes to work Anthropologie catalogue. I know it's in there somewhere...

A Weekend Sale Surprise at Anthropologie!!!

Friday, April 25, 2014

Eager to get rid of its sale stock Anthropologie has launched new promotion: take an extra 20% off all sale items, online and in-store!! Full details of this promotion have not yet been released but the promo does apply to sale clothing and accessories, plus shoes and select home goods that are on sale.

Inside, some sale picks, or you can check out the latest Anthropologie sale post here.

Reviews: Tisana Dress, Legend & Song Dutch Wax Dawa Dress, Capuchina Dress, Hera Draped Dress, Embroidered Coral Dress, Tableau Shift

Thursday, April 24, 2014

When I see this dress, my mind goes straight to party time.
The Tableau Shift ($178), reviewed.

After putting together a post detailing some of the Anthro dresses I'm tempted by based on their online presence, I couldn't wait to go to Anthropologie and try on as many of those dresses as possible! Inside, round 1 of the dresses I found plus some fresh ones that caught my eye in person.

Anthropologie's Spring Dresses: Yay or Nay?

Tuesday, April 22, 2014

The Galen Dress ($128), one of Anthropologie's efforts to mix balance loose drape and shape definition.

Quick sidenote: Anthropologie sent out a first dibs email for its May catalogue yesterday. See the whole page here.

Spring is a lovely time of year for many reasons but for me one of the highlights is watching Anthropologie's dress section explode with tons of new offerings. Although I've admittedly liked their fall stuff a lot better than spring for a few years now, my wishlist is growing like a vine this year.

Let's talk thoughts on Anthro's dresses for Spring 2014 so far.

Runway to Everyday: Adam Lippes Spring 2014

Saturday, April 19, 2014

Simple and classic in an unconventional material from Adam Lippes Spring 2014
ready-to-wear presentation at New York Fashion Week.

It's always possible that a Fashion Week presentation will be over the top. Mostly though it's a chance for designers to present their wares to buyers and get their product in stores. I never fail to be inspired by outfits on the runway! Sometimes they need a little adjustment to work off the runway, sometimes not. Runway to everyday is about translating runway looks to an everyday outfit.

Today, a beautiful satin dress from Adam Lippes' Spring 2014 collection gets the everyday treatment.

{Weekly} Popbacks Open Thread

By request of the community comes this weekly post. Please use this post to list website popbacks that you see on your wishlist, via search engines, or in your shopping cart. Anthropologie Has A New Promo This Weekend!!

Anthropologie has unveiled its latest weekend promotion -- take 20% off all full priced shoes! Unfortunately Free Shipping ended last night, but this promo is valid both online and in stores. This promotion lasts through Monday April 21 at 3 AM ET. For those with a birthday discount, this promo CAN be combined with the birthday discount.

Although the weather in NYC has been fluctuating terribly between pleasant and springlike and unable to escape winter's grip, I'm excited for this promotion! I'll have this post updated with some of my picks shortly. If only it applied to sale shoes too...

Runway to Everyday: Tory Burch A/W 2013

Thursday, April 17, 2014

A new spin on shape from Tory Burch's A/W 2013
ready-to-wear presentation at New York Fashion Week.

Tory Burch is a brand I'm perfectly willing to buy at full price but I realize that's not a reality for everyone. (Sometimes it's not a reality for me!) So with that in mind today's Runway to Everyday post is about finding pieces inspired by the look above.

Here's what I love about this look: First, the top has a flattering bib-style overlay that points down towards the waist, which on most women is a spot worth emphasizing. And then there's the terrific skirt which mirrors the top with a slightly wider symmetry. Most pencil skirts with an overlay or middle seam detail like this are in the opposite shape -- wide up by the hips and then tapering in as the pencil does down toward the knee. However, if you're already an hourglass like me or a similarly curvy shape what you actually want is an overlay that's smaller up by the hips and then slightly larger down toward to the knee. Visually this balances everything out nicely and avoids the va-va-voom that pencil skirts sometimes make out of curves. That Jessica Rabbit va-va-voom is a great tool in the curvy girl's dressing arsenal no doubt, but in a conservative office for instance just won't fly.

Let's see the Everyday translations...

Friends, Family and Sales

It's that time of year again -- many stores are running their Friends & Family Sales to entice us into some spring spending. Inside, a few sales that I've been waiting for, starring Shopbop.

Runway to Everyday: Victoria by Victoria Beckham A/W 2013

Wednesday, April 16, 2014

A downtown prep runway look from Victoria Beckham's A/W 2013
ready-to-wear presentation at New York Fashion Week.

This time around I have a less strict interpretation of the runway look. Consider the choices inside more of an "inspired-by" collection.

Eye Candy: Short Hills, NJ Anthropologie Spring 2014 Fashion Show!

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Last month, the Short Hills, New Jersey Anthropologie held an incredible customer fashion show for Spring 2014. Though Short Hills is quite a haul from Manhattan I try to make the trip whenever possible. Not only are the customer models amazing with beautifully styled outfits, the audience tends to rock too!

Inside, 20+ looks from the show styled by the Jennifer, one of the store's personal shoppers.

Runway to Everyday: Karen Walker A/W 2013

A chic and accessible runway look from Karen Walker's A/W 2013
ready-to-wear presentation at New York Fashion Week.

It's always possible that a Fashion Week presentation will be over the top. Mostly though it's a chance for designers to present their wares to buyers and get their product in stores. Today, a look from Karen Walker's Fall 2013 RTW (ready-to-wear) presentation.

Playing the Sale Guessing Game (again!)

Sunday, April 13, 2014

After a delayed round of sale last week (which I'm still annoyed to have missed out on, truth be told), I have to wonder what tomorrow will bring. 2nd/3rd/etc cuts? Fresh markdowns? Nothing at all? At this point my crystal ball seems rather cloudy so let's play the Sale Guessing Game and wonder together!!

The weekend in-store community post

Friday, April 11, 2014

I have noticed a lot of community members sharing in-store deals and spots in the comments of various posts. Inspired by the weekly Seek & Find posts started by the lovely Alexis over at J.Crew Aficionada, I think now is a good time to start a similar weekly post here.

Reviews: Medallion-Cut Dress, Tamsin Maxi Dress, Golden Panes Shift, Watercolor Mirage Dress, Pebble Print Dress, Kukka Tea Dress

Thursday, April 10, 2014

You can never have enough stripes. The Watercolor Mirage Dress ($270), reviewed.

At home in New York things are still looking a bit winter dreary, but here in Paris the city is in Spring's full bloom! That has me in the mood for dresses. During a recent trip to Anthropologie I tried a bunch on; thoughts inside.

Lunch Break: Sunnies under $50

Sunglasses. Sunnies. I love them; I forget them in cabs constantly. That's why my only nice pair are the Ray-Ban Wayfarers I adore though these new Ice Pop versions above are super tempting! Inside are 25 sunny options for under $50, because at the rate I lose them 'tis better to spend a little less.

Lunch Break: Watches

Wednesday, April 9, 2014

As I try more and more to disconnect myself from the technology world when I'm not working, a watch has become a critical piece of jewelry once again. When younger I favored sports watches for their durability. These days it's easy to find a watch that looks like a bracelet, or a diamond-encrusted ring, or just about anything really. Inside, some of the prettiest watches I've seen out there recently.

Lunch Break: Crop Tops

Tuesday, April 8, 2014

A brief history of crop tops: one time a fashion designer was working on a beautiful top. So immersed in his work that he forgot to eat for several days, his assistant brought him a meal and forced the designer to eat. Afraid to step away from his work and lose inspiration, the designer ate next to the dress form. To his horror a drip from his meal ended up on the bottom of his fantastical design. With buyers on the way it was too late to remake the top so he simply cut off the damaged part.

When the buyers arrived they loved this dramatic new silhouette. The fashion designer was incredulous -- it's not even half a shirt, he said! No worries, said the buyers, consumers will buy anything.

I doubt crop tops are long for this world but they are already on the streets of NYC in a big way. (On the warm days anyway.) Inside, 25 crop tops that caught my eye like Clover Canyon's Swirl Scarf Crop ($198, above, also here).

Off The Beaten Path: Like Anthropologie, elsewhere

Saturday, April 5, 2014

Anthropologie's Spring 2014 clothing offerings look more promising by the day. I am still longing for that old Anthro feeling however and it's led me to seek out other retailers that might fit the bill. This is a topic that I get asked about a lot: where to find clothing like Anthropologie's old stuff. Inside, details on the 4 dresses you see above and plenty more.

Lunch Break: Black Leather Pumps

Thursday, April 3, 2014

Like many people I have a never-ending shoe dilemma: I wear through black pumps like no other. With every accidental toe drag, every time my heel gets stuck in that space between the sidewalk stones, or that moment when a trusty pump has finally worn out, I'm constantly on the hunt for a new faithful black pump. Inside, 25 pairs that might do the trick, like Banana Republic's Ninah Pump ($128) perhaps?

Anthropologie's SALE is here -- we think...?

Guten Morgen ladies! An Anthropologie sale is expected to be up right about now. This open thread is a place to discuss the sale and any promotions that might go live today. (Nothing is guaranteed.) If there is a sale please use the comments to discuss. NO affiliate links in the comments please, though you ARE WELCOME to link directly to items on sale.

I will not be able to make the sale list this morning due to work obligations. However, you can use this link to access the sale, if there is one, beginning at 9 AM ET, and I will try to pop in later to update this post with details as needed.

So, is there a sale today? What's on sale? Is there an extra % off? What's the good Anthro word?

Playing the Sale Guessing Game (again!)

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

It's been one of those weeks where we know is sale coming, we just weren't sure when. The consensus now seems to be tomorrow AM will be Anthro's sale debut this week. Does a Thursday sale mean a promo is also on the way? Let's play the Sale Guessing Game and find out!!

Lunch Break: Satchels under $250

Is there any bag as versatile as the satchel? Whether it's a dome, a bowler or a satchel tote this versatile shape is my go-to work purse. Inside, 15 satchels that come in a wide range of colors (more than just the options shown!) all for under $250, like the Monterey Satchel ($228) by Calvin Klein, above.

Lunch Break: Work & Weekend Dresses Under $100

Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Throw them on. Accessorize as much or as little as you want. Get out the door. Inside, dresses that are ready to go as soon as you put them on. Fifteen for work; fifteen for play. Nothing over $100 with many under $60. Some, like the Kenneth Cole Edeline Dress (also here) can pull double-duty.
