I have noticed a lot of community members sharing in-store deals and spots in the comments of various posts. Inspired by the weekly Seek & Find posts started by the lovely Alexis over at J.Crew Aficionada, I think now is a good time to start a similar weekly post here.
This post is for community members to trade information. You can ask for help in finding an item, report back on what you saw in-store at your local Anthro, ask general questions, make a request, or just stop by to say hello. I love how helpful this community can be!

I have a general question for all of you out there -
How often do you return things to Anthropologie?
Sometimes I wonder if I'm especially fickle or if other people return things as often as I do. I'd say the majority of the orders I place online, I end up returning.
That should probably be an indication to me that I need to actually go into the store and try things on before buying, but the temptation is too great and it's too easy to buy something pretty asap online.
Now with things I purchase in store, I rarely return items because I am usually sure I love them... but for example within the last week I returned a sale skirt and a pair of shoes I bought on the website and I am going to be returning a cardigan I bought in store.
Just wondering if I'm in the norm here.

Christine--Jacquelyn of Musings by Jacquelyn (you can find her blog on Roxy's sidebar) talks about returning online orders a lot. I don't think it's strange to do that when you order things sight unseen. If Anthro didn't have the liberal return policy, I'd be hesitant to order from stores and online. I wouldn't worry about it. They've got great customer service, and they want you to be happy (because that's how they'll hook you into coming back again and again!).

I have a question about backordered items. I ordered a snakebite belt at the beginning on January when the backorder said it would be available at the end of February (I even marked it on my calendar). So I thought that was when my belt would be here and if I wanted to order another one I'd have to wait until april like it currently says on the website...however, I just got an email from anthro giving me a backorder update and I now have to wait til April for the belt I ordered in January. Are they just going to keep pushing it back until I finally get an email saying that item is out of stock? Sorry, that's the long version of asking if I should just try to find one in stores instead of waiting for my backorder?

Lindsay--My experience with the B/O stock at Anthro is that they email everyone who ordered the item with the updated B/O date. You'll likely get your item with the original back order date.
I had ordered the Scarf-Tied Oxfords and Bouquet of Roses Heels, and every week I would get a b/o update, pushing the date further. I got my Scarf-Tied Oxfords around the time that the back order date was for when I ordered them (it may have been a week later). I got my Bouquet of Roses Heels before the date, even though they had shipped the same day I got on email saying that they had been pushed out another month.

I don't know if people are till looking for these but Charlottesville, VA has a lot of plaza cardigans in gray and teal and also a bunch of Bailey 44 pucker up cardigans in colors not on the website (purple, two shades of gray, black, navy). I too end up returning a lot of my online purchases. There is an Anthro about 1/2 hour away from so I only make it there about twice a month, which is when I do all my returns. I bet the girls working there think I'm nuts, haha!
However, I very rarely end up returning in-store purchase. Probably because I've been able to try them on. Everything on those perfect models online looks so darn cute but often times not so much on a "real" girl!

Christine, Tien is right---I return A LOT. I do most of my shopping online and when I do, I get as much as possible to try and offset the shipping cost. The people at my store have been really good about it. My husband will run in and return or I will and we always look around and sometimes come home with something. In fact, I just did a large return today.
lindsey.elizabeth: I ordered the Snakebite Belts way back in November and also am on backorder. The original date was Feb 26. then I got an e-mail last week for March 19, then today I got one for April 9! I too am starting to wonder if I will actually get the belts. Frankly it is starting to irritate me a bit.

You are not alone my friend! Especially lately, I've been making some serious returns on items that I purchased online. They just didn't work out, plus I would end up using the credit to buy something in-store so win-win for me and Anthro!
It's a little weird for me just because I'm familiar with everyone that works at my local store, but if it doesn't work then it's not worth keeping, plus, I'm only one of hundreds of people they see. Like Tien said, the ultimate goal they have is for you to be happy.
Hi there - I do a lot of returns with online orders as well. I think I return 50-75% of the stuff I buy. Usually it's because things don't fit, I would say I'm a true 0 but a lot of clothes in the US run bigger than Europe or Asia. I also hate crowded stores and buying online is so much easier. I concentrate my purchases with stores that have great return policies, Anthro & Nordstrom. I also use their limitless return time frames to test how much I'll wear an item, so if something has been sitting in the closet with tags for weeks, I'll return it. I don't feel bad though because if they didn't have such good policies I would spend like 90% less there. The one thing I do feel bad about is wasted resources so i reuse all the tissue paper and cardboard boxes.

I saw the Forest Creatures belt with the rabbit in a size small earlier this week at the University Village Store in Seattle (206) 985-2101. There were at least 2 in the Small then, but they were listed at a $39.95.
I was going to get one but when worn the metal rabbit sticks very noticeably & awkwardly out on the side that isn't hooked into the belt. It needs to be somehow attached to the belt on the other side as well but I couldn't really figure out how to do it so it was unnoticeable.
Ooops forgot to say that I'm looking for the Horizon Line Dress in the "shell" color.

christine - chiming in to your question about returns, I will not be made to feel guilty for returning something. I know that sounds indignant...I don't return often so when I do there's a really good reason why. When a store tries to make me feel bad, I look the employee straight in the eye and tell them exactly why they're getting their product back.
Just to warn everyone though, some stores will mark people as "serial returners." This is done as deterrent. I don't think Anthro does this and that's why I encourage everyone to be respectful of their awesome return policy. I recommend against returning an item you bought at full price to buy it on sale, etc.
lindsey..elizabeth - what a bummer! I have had this happen a couple of times. Not with in-house items, always with outside vendors Anthro buys from. I'm sure they're just as frustrated as you are since the belt is so popular. If you can hold out I would as it doesn't seem like this belt is well-stocked in stores right now anyway. Just my $0.02.
Anon @ 2:44 -- hmm, for work or play? I think the Bougainvillea Cardigan, Shimmering Pin-Up Cardigan in purple or (potentially, I haven't seen it in real life yet) the Glassflower Cardi could all work over the dress. Tights-wise go with a pair of opaque tights in a neutral (blues trending towards grey, soft royal purples, wine-colored reds). Finish the look off with rounded-toe Mary-Janes, something like these perhaps? I own and love those shoes in brown btw. :)

Jinii - I'm pretty sure I saw one at the El Segundo, CA store...but that was on Tuesday. Still might be worth a call...stuff moves kinda slowly there.
Jinii - I just found one in my size earlier today, and the first store I called only had a size 10 -I'm not sure if that would work for you? Just in case the number is 585-223-4999. I have one size up in the Scalloped Clouds and it's not a big difference in this skirt IMO. Good luck!

Re: returns
I usually return (well, exchange) something a few times a month. If they keep track on my Anthro card, oh well. They will see that I may return 3 items a month, but purchase four+ times that. I think that since many of my purchases are online, a 20-25% return rate is not bad, since I buy most things online before they show up in my store.
I also have a rule that if I don't wear something within three weeks of purchase, it goes back.
I am broke right now (or really just saving for new arrivals) but would love a Thousand days skirt, either or both colors, size 0

Since we're on the subject of returns, I had ordered some items online and they didn't work out. So I sent it back via Smart Label almost 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I checked my credit card to see if I got credit back and it showed nothing. I called CS and she tried to track the package down. She said she wasn't able to and so try back next week. I'm a little worried the package is lost somewhere. Has this ever happened to anyone?
Try back next week? Uh, no. Call them back and don't get off the phone until you get someone who can give you answers. Also, shoot an email to CS and explain to them that the phone service was not up to snuff.

The only time I returned something via smart label it took at least 2 weeks maybe 3 for them to process it. I eventually did get an email confirmng the return. I don't know if that is typical for Anthro (seems a little long to me).

Susan - I've returned via SmartLable and it does take awhile. I made of note of the tracking number before I sent it off though so was able to track it, but then it wasn't updated for a week so I called USPS and they told me with that shipping method, it can take up to 2 weeks to be delivered. It also took a few days for the tracking record to show up in the USPS system. I think Anthro then takes some time to process the return as well. I usually take a pic of the label on my iphone so that I don't have to keep track of where I wrote it down. Hope that helps.

I just returned a Blushing Faille Dress sz 8 at the University Village Store in Seattle. The zipper is broken (will have to be replaced) and it's 83 dollars (with 9.5% WA tax included). I also returned the Pressed Buds Cardi sz. Large.
When I was there returning the items, I saw a girl wearing a necklace from JCrew. I looked online and it's sold out. I never bought anything there before, so I came home, looked at Jcrew catalog and it's the Crystal cluster necklace. Their customer service said they can't locate the item for me because it is on sale now. to anon @ 6:46- the PA was in store. I initially called CS and they could not even tell me an in-store price because the booties are sold out in stores. I just took the receipt to the store with me since I was going to do a return and inquired. What a nice surprise to find that they had been marked down to $39.95!

What are people's experiences with Anthro belts? I'm considering the Looping Lanes Belt, but whenever I look at Anthro belts in the store the leather is so stiff and stitching not very well done. I get that they're unique and reasonably priced, but I think it takes away from the whole when a belt (especially a larger one) doesn't look as well made.
I forget what blog it was, but one person saw the Skyfall Dress marked at either 39.95 or 49.95. That was earlier in the week and either a 12 or 14. Maybe something was just wrong with it?

As far as returns go: I am probably already flagged by anthro as a serial returner! but whenever I "return" I always either exchange or get it put on a gift card to turn around and spend on something else. It always goes back to them. I don't feel bad, since 90% of my spending money goes to Anthro. My local store employees mostly all know me by name, and count me as a loyal customer, despite my frequent exchanges.
kinda wanting the tawny acres boots, size 9.5 or 10 if they pop up anywhere!

I do the vast majority of my Anthro shopping online (the nearest store is 2+ hours from my house) and I would say that approximately 50% of the items that I order wind up getting returned. I feel bad returning so much stuff, but I also feel justified in doing it. The high cost of shipping means that I often order the same item in multiple sizes and then there are all of those items that look beautiful on the model but not on me...
Re: Smart Label
Almost all of those returns that I mentioned above are returned via Smart Label. The shortest time that it has ever taken for me to get a refund is 1 week. The longest is somewhere around 3.5 weeks. Usually, CS will send a follow-up e-mail saying that your return has been received and that it might take up to two billing cycles for your credit card to reflect the return. Sometimes, I don't receive an e-mail but then I just check my Order History to confirm that the item has been marked as "returned."

scampering scotties-- there were 3 lacemaker skirts in size 0 at the rockefeller store in NYC as of wednesday.
they also had a few scalloped clouds skirts (sizes 2 and 4) and one scalloped dots skirt in an 8. lots of the montgolfer skirts there too.

Muse - I'm fairly certain they don't. However maybe with Anthro's new international shipping that policy may have changed. If I were you though, I would contact a store in Canada directly and not go through your local Anthro or CS.

lindsey..elizabeth and jacquelyn re: backordered snakebite belts. I called Anthro about an item that I was interested in that had been on backorder but had not arrived by given date, in spite of there being no update on it. CS told me that they didn't know why and that it may be a quality issue. Anthro could have gotten the belts and then there was an issue with the quality and had to send them back. Obviously, any guess for the reason for the delay is complete speculation.
I would just try to keep an eye out in your local stores, because even though items are backordered online...they have been known to make their way to the b&m stores before making a re-appearance online.

My one experience with shipping back via Smart Label - it took forever and they lost one item that was shipped back so I never received credit. Infuriating. I called and called and they said they kept sending messages to the warehouse to go through the box, but they never called me back and they never credited my account. That was two months ago and still no credit and no call back. The store makes me feel bad when I return so I thought I would try the smart label. Not after that experience.

dea, i purchased the fall foliage sweater dress about a month ago at the soho, nyc shop for $39.95. however, it was still ringing up for $79.95 but was clearly marked at the lower price on the tag (and actually, i think there was one other one on the rack that was also marked for $39.95)...not sure if it did get a second cut or if it was just one of those weird soho markdowns that don't seem to be anywhere else! (ala the speckled ink dress that was on sale for $99 a couple of wks ago!)

I ended up calling CS and learned some info that seems worthwhile sharing (I didn't know this). I checked to see if I could receive a PA if I found the item purchased online marked a second time at a store and CS told me the following:
they can only recognize a PA if the item has been marked on sale (or on further sale) by all the stores. Sometimes, one particular store may mark down prices due to low inventory in that particular store, but if all the stores haven't marked the item down any further, then CS can't recognize the PA.

DEA- If I were you I would still try to take the dress to the store for a PA. I called CS to see if the Narration Booties have received another markdown and I was told that same as they told you. She actually said that my size has to be in stores in order for her to see the markdown. So, I ended up taking the booties to the store and indeed they were marked down again. Good luck!
