I wanted to dedicate a short post both to document a change I plan to implement on the blog and to provide a forum (the comments) for the change. As I have mentioned previously I've been researching ways to generate revenue from the blog. The goal is strictly to turn that money around to use for contests. I love prizes but I love giving them away more.
After doing about a month of research I've visited several options. I have decided against straight out ads for the time being as the implementation options are too disruptive to the flow of the blog. I have one ad that runs at the bottom of the blog that you've probably never even noticed. I'm also not interested in doing sponsored posts unless they're sponsored directly by Anthropologie and that seems highly unlikely.
I've decided the least invasive way to potentially generate revenue is integrating the blog with ShopStyle's developer tools. What will change on the blog? A few things. First, when you click on a product link on the blog you will see a quick ShopStyle page (called an interstitial) before you're taken to the Anthropologie product page. If you buy something from Anthropologie's website via that link Effortless Anthropologie will get a small commission...usually something like $.03 on the dollar. I will also probably add one sidebar gallery to the blog that features my Anthropologie wishlist. Same deal -- if you click on something in my gallery and buy it, EA makes a small commission. Lastly some images within posts will be pulled from ShopStyle. If you click on the image you'll again start a commissionable session for EA.
I am not 100% set on doing this quite yet; I am still playing in the developer sandbox at the moment. I certainly don't want to drive anyone away from the blog by making them feel like they're being sold to constantly. That is not what this blog is about. So I'm curious if you have an opinion either way.
